Nursing a hen that was attacked.

I’ve got the lamp 2.5-3 feet away from her. It’s probably 50 degrees out in the garage where she is so I don’t think it’s too hot. She did feel kinda warm, which I’m hoping is a normal warm. She’s made it another night, I’ve got her to sip some water and a milk/banana/peanut butter shake. I just hope she’s not too miserable and in pain, I don’t want her suffering. From what I’ve read chickens don’t show much emotion when in pain. Never thought I’d be torn up over chickens, I won’t be letting them out of the run anytime soon after this.
You're doing what you can for her.
Keep trying to get fluids into her.
You don't mention your location, but if you are in the US, it would be a good idea to get come antibiotics for her when stores open tomorrow. Tractor Supply carries Procaine Penicillin G. Dosage is 1/4ml injected into the breast muscle 1/4" deep, give for 5 days, alternate sides daily. Use a 20 gauge needle and a syringe - TSC carries those too.
If you have any other antibiotics on hand, we may be able to use those, just tell us what they are and can try to figure the dosage for you.

You're doing well, I wouldn't give up on her yet. You can try a baby aspirin for pain, that might perk her up enough to want to eat. Chickens can be fragile sometimes, but for this kind of stuff, they can be surprisingly tough. Good luck.

That’s good to know. We are in Maine with a tractor supply store near by. I think we may try and put a baby aspirin in some water and try that.

Sorr about your injured hen. You may put an adult aspirin or 4 baby aspirin in a liter of water. Poultry NutriDrench vitamins with electrolytes can be given 2 ml daily. It can be hard to know if there are internal injuries with a predator attack. She may still be in shock, but she may be getting worse. Keep her warm and offer her fluids as advised. Very wet chicken feed and a little egg are good to offer a sick chicken to get them nourished. Hopefully, she will start looking better soon.

I would offer her anything that is her favorite food. Doesn't matter if it's a treat, she needs food. And water. Dehydration is bad. The fact that she made it on her own overnight here in Maine is a very good sign. She has her head up eyes look clear. Just keep her warm and try ANYTHING she likes to eat or drink. Funny I started ACV water a couple of weeks ago on my birds and they love it. One week ACV water the next week plain. I used it for a different reason but she might like the taste of that. I took a one gallon ice tea jug and mixed 1 tablespoon into it and doled it out. Remember Bag Balm. If I works on cows teats it'll work on anything. I'm in New Portland if I can be of help. Good luck I think she'll come around.

UPDATE: she didn’t make it. Left the house around 10 and just got home. Tried to give her a little water with aspirin when we left and came home she passed. Thanks everyone for the advice. Hopefully it won’t happen again. Merry Christmas everyone.

I was so hoping she'd rally. You did everything you could. Just concentrate now on you other birds. Merry Christmas.
