Im happy to report 14 of my 14 incubated egged hatched! I lost 2 of my 3 hens and my rooster to a fox in April so I decided to incubate the eggs I had in my fridge. This was my first time and I had no idea what I was doing, so I feel like it was a success. Unfortunately, I had one egg that needed assistance. I waited 24 hours after a rather large first external pip. She was struggling. She hatched with just about every problem in the book - shrink wrapped, cramped foot, slipped tendons, yolk sac not fully absorbed. I have to say I was not prepared and learned on the fly. She survived so far. She’s tiny. She is a week old today. She’s eating and drinking just fine. We fixed her foot and legs and she runs around with everyone else. She has her own Brisnea heater that’s too big for the bigger birds so she can get away when she needs a break. The last hurdle is I mistakenly cleaned up the crusted yolk from her absorption hole and it has not healed properly. I’m worried she will get an infection. I’ve kept her vent clean and left the “belly button”alone for now. I purchased some nutri-drench to help her fight any infection. My question is - how much should I give her if I’m feeding it directly from a dropper? The instructions are for a bird weighing 3 pounds. I can’t figure out how to convert that to a 1 oz chick. I’ve read everything I can about this product but that’s the one answer I can’t find. If anyone has had experience with this please let me know. Your help is greatly appreciated!
