Nutrient Requirements of Poultry: Ninth Revised Edition, 1994

Regarding the NRC book...complaints in the industry for several years now that these have to be updated (and there are even references now in the MERCK veterinary manual stating that these guidelines are now to be considered "minimal" >sad fact of the matter is that there are no funds being made available to update this important resource to internation nutritional guidelines for feed producers, veterinarians etc. and incorporate the millions of more recent research on many micronutrients (just take as example vitE/selenium) ....

Unicorn:

You are correct on both points; the "minimum" nature of the recommendations and the lack of funding for updates. I spoke with one of the Professors instrumental in the 1998 Edition of the NRC requirements for swine last month. He stated that he did not envision any update due to the lack of funding. Unfortunately, the funding needed to support the committees that complete the literature reviews involved in these Guidelines is quite high.
