I have 25 hens and Mr. Rudy Roo
they are awesome, I have had them since June of 08
they have laid consistantly all Michigan winter and it has
been cold
I have given them a blend of organic feed with layena feed
yogurt, warm oatmeal, fresh fruits and veggies and
black sunflower seeds
my question is [can they have nuts like almonds, pistacchios
cashews, walnuts
those are not on the list
any suggestions would be helpful
thanks,,,,,,,,,looking forward to spring!!!!!!

Yes, in moderation, as part of a well balanced diet.

I suppose it should be okay if they don't eat too many.
My chickens come up to the house where my bird feeders are and eat everything scratched out on the ground. Sometimes there are lots of peanuts, pistachios, walnuts or pecans for them. I don't know how many a chicken eats but I haven't found anyone on death's door in several years so it must be alright. I personally wouldn't offer it to them though.

I spent a very enjoyable afternoon this past fall cracking pecans for my chickens.
No harm came to the chickens.

We crack pecans for our chickens. Boy, those girls are SPOILED! They follow you around until you crack them for them. Luckily we have our own pecan trees. We keep the smaller ones for them to have as a treat year round.
