I would love to come down for this, but not sure if I can make it. I probably won't have much unless I have birds go broody. If I do, I may have some a couple of turkey poults and buff orp or BO/RSL crosses to bring. I see a large mix of birds I'd love to add. I'd be interested in jersey giants, marans, EE, or possibly some sussex. I could go broke with everything I would want, and possibly kicked out of the house.

Dave - come just for the fun day - even if you have nothing to offer - but be prepared to indulge - there is much freindly pressure to give in and buy more birds than you planned on ....

@MorrisRdFarms please, feel no obligation to bring critters or even to buy them but be warned, there are tons of cute fuzzy butts and they all need love.

There would be no pressure from any of you to buy more birds. I've been working on a list of what I want to add to my flock anyways. Chicken stock would only help to make it easier, plus I wouldn't need to buy them from a hatchery.

you could always ask Pyxis to add a list for you to the for sale page of what your looking for. I have a long list of breeds I have to place an order in February for birds so if you have a breed you want that none of us can provide I could add it to my order.

yeah they arent the easiest to hatch though..i'm not sure if others in our thread have had that experience. Almost easier to get chicks in some ways.
They don't hatch well with others. In my experience: They don't lose enough moisture if under the same conditions as lighter colored eggs. When I hatched blue and dark brown together they did better than light brown or white with them. I have a wonderful hen from my BCM crossed with Cream Brabanter.

I have had a similar experience hatching the Marans they are more difficult w/ humidity issues and they seem to take longer which is a pain to leave early hatchers in a whole extra day waiting on those

As much as I want a huge flock of dark layers I'm a cheapskate. Unless it's from yall I'm not buying chicks other than the meaties. I have the greatest broody and I will just cram marans eggs under her every time she decides to sit. The light eggs I have 85-90% hatch rate so the can get incubated. I also have the world's best hen for raising incubated chicks. My blind Barbanter does as good if not better than my broody as raising chicks out. Sadly she no longer lays but she earns her keep by being a free brooder box. She loves chicks. I guess raising them let's her know she is still needed.
