I am having terrible luck hatching this year. I'm not even getting 50%. I had a conversation with someone else who told me they were also having a bad year, and another who lost 40/100 in her cabinet incubator and couldn't figure out why. She usually has close to 100% hatch rates!

I've got 7 eggtopsys to do today :(

It's a Little Giant...yeah, I know....not the best.
This time was particularly disappointing, because my daughter had won an online poetry contest where the prize was a dozen rare breed hatching eggs.
That is Disappointing...how far are you from Jordan ? i believe I have 3 Broodies right now ..will probably be more as 3 other hens also went broody last year
(I don't know if I shared her poem before:
isnt playing
. So, now we are looking ahead and moving on.

If you are close enough I will brood eggs for you
That is very kind of you! However, it is something we want to be able to do ourselves. We don't need any more chicks right now. But by next spring, we will have chickens we want to breed. So, we still have some time to work this out.

Are all your chickens hatchery ? they dont tend to go broody ...did you get some at chicken stock ?

That's what my nesting boxes looked like a month ago! They all had broody hens & the hens still laying were beside themselves trying to find a place to lay!

My turkey hens are also broody, but I may end up giving them chicks to raise, as even if their eggs hatch, there'll be too many mamas. I saw someone even had a turkey hen raise Cornish meaties! They'd be able to go out on pasture at a younger age with a "live" heat source.

So Far I have only 3 that are broody ..the rest just joined in for the fun I guess
..those others were laying ..LOL ..there is a potential 3 more that may become broody ...as they did last year
