NY chicken lover!!!!

Today is glorious, so am hoping to make the most of it. Yesterday took the barred rock babies out to experience the great outdoors. They didn't like it much, it was pretty scary, and these giant things kept coming over and looking at them, and especially their food. So we'll try it again today and see if it is any better after they have had some time to think about it. I took some pix, but it looks like jail, so will try to do better today. Also planted a French pussy willow in the pen, and Monday transplanted a lilac,so they will have more cover and some natural beauty. I know that matters to them.

All of mine are the same way, running away squawking. Trying to handle the big kids when they get closed in at night and food refilled. The orps are getting better, Luna will tolerate it the most. The Aussie is still super skittish in that group. Watching the little kids last night, noticed there are 2 big and 2 little Anconas and the bigger ones have the starting of combs. Hoping that they are just more mature, not 2 roos 2 hens. Still undecided what EE and GLW are going to be.

Does anyone have any experience with the breeder on CL from Corning area that has Cochins, Buff Orps, Partridge Rocks, Australorps, Ameraucanas? They are sexed pullets for $5.25. Has week olds and some are 3-4 weeks old. They deliver to the Corning/Hornell area, but will be through on the way to New Woodstock this weekend. Was thinking of picking up some Rocks, another Aussie and Ameraucana. Not sure if I'll make it to the Auburn swap, so this would work, but don't want to end up with poor quality stock either.

Update: The CL ad is Jonelle Pionessa. Anyone hear of her? Good? Bad?
Besides the Rocks, BA and Amaraucana (specified not EE), she has friends that have the Speckled Sussex, Dominiques and Welsummer I have been looking for!

She is going to email me pics of her actual birds, as the CL pics are general breed pics pulled online.

Why are we praying for rain?!? LOL Thats all I hear out of my husbands mouth when I'm not up there is how crummy the weather is in Syracuse all the time! I just spent all of last week there I think we got maybe 2-3 nice days to be outside doing yard work and what not. I need some nicer weather there otherwise I'll be relocating - AGAIN! LOL

I don't want any rain right now.. Well, ok it could rain NOW, but it's going to rain on Saturday when I have a ton of stuff that I wanted to do. Hard enough getting DH to help me when it's NOT raining, but when it's raining forget it. :p

Anyone hatching anything due next weekendish or so? (albany/saratoga area). Have a few broodies 'due' that week but if nothing hatches want to just give them some chicks and get them outta there. They are hogging up the good nest boxes. :p

I don't want ANY rain at all this weekend! My girlfriends are coming up from CT and I really wanted it to be nice so we could eat out on the patio at Dino, and then walk around Broadway in Saratoga on Saturday. Doesn't look like we'll be doing that. :-(

I know everyone has plans but I have to tell you all this dust blowing around is killing my asthma. We need rain for the lawns and plants and wells. I cleaned out the run on the big coop on tuesday and almost choked to death on the dust from raking it out. My lungs were very angry at me. Anyways, I am hoping for a few days of nice, slow , steady rain. The kind that soaks in.

I took the 26 terrors outside today and you would have thought that I was feeding them to the wolves! They tried to get back into the sliding doors then huddled against the foundation and were generally scared of the big bad evil world. Apparently grass underfoot is scary as well. They were only out for 45 min before I took pity on them and brought them back in. They had been noisy and busy all morning. Its now quiet since their return to the box. I have to go let the big girls out now because they were giving me the evil eye because I was out with those noisy other things and they were locked up in their run. Sigh. Some days to be so needed is not so good. I shall bribe them with grapes. I swear they would walk through fire for grapes.

It is quite nice out today so chicken therapy and sun equals a quiet mind and a relaxed body. I'm out the door. Enjoy all.

Ahhh...I didn't even think of that! Well in that case, I guess the rain could help a little. That'll be me next weekend while I'm outside building my coop!

I haven't heard anything about her from anyone else, but I am supposed to be getting some Ameracaunas from her hatch next week. If you do get some birds from her this weekend I would be interested in hearing what you think. Oh, and I guess, it is time I said "Hello", I have been lurking on this thread long enough.

As of tomorrow I've been on six days straight. I'm finally off this weekend, and I'm still firmly on Team Rain. The dust is making my asthma flare up as well, plus we've been flagged as a high fire danger zone by the National Weather Service several times now. I also have a well which no doubt needs to be recharged, as the usual snowpack was absent this year. I say bring on the rain! *rain dances*
