NY chicken lover!!!!

Update: The CL ad is Jonelle Pionessa. Anyone hear of her? Good? Bad?
Besides the Rocks, BA and Amaraucana (specified not EE), she has friends that have the Speckled Sussex, Dominiques and Welsummer I have been looking for!

She is going to email me pics of her actual birds, as the CL pics are general breed pics pulled online.

You need to let me know what color Ameraucana she has. I have been looking for some more Blues but don't know anybody local to get them from.

When I was running water for the horses chickens etc my water turned brown!! this is April!! Shouldn't be having dry problems. I do not relish getting water from the river(near dry) for my animals. With such a dry winter and wild fire alerts(unheard of here) we need rain desperately. My pastures are dust bowls and there is no grass growing. We need rain!!!

My Christmas Day chicks, RIRs all named Carol, always run to see me when I come out into the yard. I had some Araucanas and Ameraucanas hatch end of October...one in particular, a pretty white Amer named Angel, will fly up to my shoulder and wants to be carried around while I go about my chores...either she really likes me, or she is just trying to escape her roo hatchmates that all seem to want to love on her at the same time!

Hen--enjoy your day off. I know how tiring it is to do 6 days in a row. The brain gets fried and the body is rebelling. I think the longest I have done is 13 days. That almost killed me.

Ginny--I said all winter long that the lack of snow was not good but everybody was thrilled and poopooed me. Its not a good thing and we are paying for it now. I was watching the corn fields being plowed and planted and there was just a huge dust cloud behind the tractor. We desparately need rain. No problems yet with our well but we are trying to be careful, although who knows how many of our neighbors are on the same aquifer. What really kills me is that we are under a red flag warning for fire and I see some idiot in the car ahead of me fling their lit cigarette out the window. Dumbass...heres your sign.

So one of the terrorsts managed to fly up and perch on the side of the brooder box through the narrow opening by the heat lamp. Figures. The screen fits the whole thing but that one spot and she finds it. She is one of the red sexlinks. I lifted her off and she sat on me for a while while I was petting her, making little chirps every now and then. I think she just likes the company. They were pretty tired after the trauma of their first outing yesterday and were pretty quiet last night. This morning they are back to raising you know what. The tiny tots (aka silkie chicks) fell asleep in the sun that was shining in their box yesterday so were busy little babies last night. At least they were quiet.

Woke up at 230 with screaming joints and have been awake since. Abbey, our cat, seemed to feel the need for attention at 430 but relented after I told her I was going to throw her out of the bedroom. Hoping to squeeze in a nap this am before running off to work. I appologize for any spelling mistakes as I am weary and my eyes are blurry from lack of sleep and allergies. Guess I will be hitting the arthritis pain formula so I can function today. Curse you Mr. Arthur Itis!

Hey fellow NYers! My babies went in their coop yesterday! How long before they can fly up to the roost?

How cute!! That's kind of a high roost for those littles, but you'll be surprised how soon they can get up there. I have a ramp for mine and they managed it at about 6 weeks old - they are now eight+ weeks old and are roosting every night. :) My super baby chicks (< 2 wks) are roosting on a little stair I have in the barn that's about 4 inches off the ground. It's so cute!

I'll ask. The Ameraucana are 3-4 weeks old, outside already and are 5.75 each (same price for pullet and roo, she hires someone to sex them and it costs the same per bird). Think I'm going to get a trio. And another Aussie, also 3-4 weeks and outside. The Partridge Rocks are 1 week old, still under heat lamp and will get at least 2 pullets, maybe a roo too. The Dominiques are a no, her friend doesn't have any available now. She was still looking for the contact for the Welsummer.

My well is OK so far, but it was having issues last year - we shall see! I actually like rain, although I'd like it better M-F - when it's raining on a w/e DH just wants to sit inside and play warcraft. :p

I came from a dry mountaintop in California that burned every year I was there, necessitating evacuation and long hotel stays so I know the fear - although never thought I'd hear a red flag warning out here! Heck, no one here even has lawn sprinklers (mandatory in california unless you want your front yard to be a dustbowl).

Looks to be sunny today so going to do a partial cleanout on my BIG coop. I wear a full pro respirator and goggles for that!
