NY chicken lover!!!!

lol. My cats are indoor cats. But my moms ( they are my neighbors) 15 lb Maine Coon is afraid of 3 lb sumatra hens. He used to be interested in them until I had my 1st broody. She attacked him with all her ticked off broody furry. He has left all of the chickens alone since then

I have 5 100% indoor cats (too many cats if you ask me). :) But the cat in the pic is one of the barn cats that came with the house. We actually tried to make him an indoor cat too, but my others picked on him so badly we left him outside. He is my livestock guardian cat. :)

Ginny--Java girl started a thread for that. Eggs have to be set today or tomorrow. I am doing mine tomorrow.

Featherz--that is a great picture! My cat is also scared of the chicks and chickens. She just likes to watch them but bring her any closer and shes out of there. She is also an indoor cat so no hunting experience for her except bugs.

The terrorists are raising a rukus downstairs this morning. Lots of running and flying and jumping and chirping. Offered them peas yesterday and most were to scared to try them. One barred rock, however, was all over it. She kept running back to grab a pea from my hand then ran around the box chirping about her score. A few others caught on and then it was on like donkey kong! Silly cheeps. Going to try some yogurt today. Dh kicked over a log last night and there were termites under it. He pointed to them and Mean Marge knows to come running if his hand is down because it means a tasty treat. Well, they all came and ate the tasty moving m&ms! Nothing like free protein and pest removal at the same time!

Feels like rain and the radar is showing a big line coming our way later. I hope so. Forecast says rain all week which is fine by me. Supposed to get heavy rain tomorrow so the pump will be set up and prepped just in case its too much in too short a time.

Off to another funfilled day at work (not). Everyone have a good day!

Oooh, thanks for reminding me. Gotta check the sump. I doubt it will be a problem - we generally only need it for spring melt, not for regular rain unless it's ridiculous (5 inches a day kinda rain). And the pit is dry dry right now.

Ok thanks for the info. Do you think it's ok that I handled the eggs and turned them? I know it's supposed to be the "lockdown period." :-| They still haven't progressed or changed that I could see but I'm keeping my eye on them...

You aren't supposed to turn them once they go on lockdown even when they pip. They get into position to hatch during lockdown.

Yesterday morning I let the girls out as usual and about an hour later the guy that cuts my grass shows up. (My husband would rather have green painted cement than cut it and since my back surgery I'm not suppose to ) Anyway I run outside to make sure he closes the gate behind him and my young girls are running around as if I had just let Godzilla into the back yard. They were scared to death over the huge lawnmower . They hid behind the shed till the coast was clear. Told him I need to know when he is coming every week. I can only imagine what they thought it was.

Our swap was a dud and hatching eggs came home with me. I have 1 doz. BLRW and a variety dozen (2 blue ameracauna X silver ameracauna, 2 silver ameracauna, 2 OE, 3 marans, 1 frizzle X OE roo, 2 LH X silver ameracauna) if anyone is interested and can come get them soon PM me.

I've heard of her from a friend of mine, but never met her. She seems to pick up chicks from other breeders for reselling (not sure if that is the case just a theory). She is currently looking for BLRW and she's meeting up with another fellow BYCer on sunday in New Woodstock for some other breed.

I think the Ameraucana she gets from someone else. Next week she is hatching (or getting) GLW and SLW. I'm supposed to meet up in Dryden on the trip through to New Woodstock. Never got pics of the birds as I asked, so hoping all is ok. Getting a trio of Ameraucana, single Australorp pullet and a quad of Partridge Rocks (because hubby insists that chickens should be red). And I asked about the Blue Ameraucana for Travis, she currently has two. If both end up roosters, one will need to go. If not, she is keeping them. But should be hatching more out this summer. Should be a busy morning for me, running to the4-H tack sale in Lisle first, find all sorts of stuff I can't live without, wander around for at least an hour then hustle up to Dryden for the chick meetup. And either drag along high-energy toddler, or leave even earlier and drop her off at the Grandparents'.

Ginny-- I've forgot to mention that we had 4 buckeyes hatch. They're soo cute!

I hope they are all pullets! Only 4 though...not a very good fertility rate. I collected more after I gave those to you and hatched 7 out of 18, still not terrific. I trimmed up the two remaining girls( 1 buckeye went broody and she is raising the hatch) and started collecting again. Plan to set tomorrow for a mother's day hatch.
