NY chicken lover!!!!

My statement was not meant in the negative. I saw it as an advanced form of chicken enabling for those who have trouble finding specific breeds they really really want. People do this with hatchery stock all the time. This would be with higher quallity birds which is a good thing. I am sorry if I offended anyone. I didn't mean to.

If this is my fault for posting before thinking I'm sorry.

I don't like seeing this cause I think that same person is supposed to come here to pick up quite a lot of birds....but I've heard nothing from her so far today. She said it would be in the morning after she goes to New Woodstock.....

Today I got a godzilla egg. I opened the next box and almost fell over when I saw how big it was. It measures 3 inches long and weighs 105 grams. I dont know if anyone else has seen one this big but we sure havent!!! I dont see any of my hens walking funny either. It had to hurt though!

Not your fault at all Tab. I was looking for feedback, good or bad, before I bought the chicks. I thank you for the insight that she bought/resold, which I don't have a problem with. My problem is the fact she was going to meet in the morning, around 10, and then calls me at 10:15, after I was already on the road to meet her. Took a 40 minute trip around the countryside (to get from tack sale to meeting place) for something that would have been 10 minute to get home. With gas at $4 a gallon, it really irks me. And every time I think I have a lead on some more chicks, something goes wrong, which is discouraging.

So since I'm not getting the extra chicks I had hoped for, anyone close by got chicks available? I see on CL that someone had Iowa Blue, 14 chicks for $25, about 25 mins from my house. Anyone have experience with this breed? This is not one that I had come across before. I'll keep checking CL. Or make a trip to visit Tab & Trav. :)

I bet it is, she told me she would have Gold and Silver Laced Wyandottes available next week. Would like some, but I'm not traveling to Horseheads. Cut out the middle man, where in CNY are you located?

Successful trip to the 4-H tack sale, picked up a turnout sheet and blanket for new pony, a couple extra halters, water buckets, heated water buckets (if we ever get electricity up there). Hurried out of there as quick as I could, because last message I had from this morning on the chick purchase was she was leaving around 8am. I planned on meeting in Dryden, half hour drive for me from the Tack Sale, which was 10 mins from home in the other direction. I was on the road over half way to Dryden when I get a call. Her other meetup from New Woodstock was going to meet her in Cortland, sometime this afternoon. No time set. Just would give a call a couple hours ahead. And she doesn't have the Ameraucana available this week anymore. But she will call back when she is ready to leave. I am thinking to hell with her birds, she can keep them.

I am not making another special trip if you can't be decent enough to let me know that there was a change in plans, pay 5.50 apiece for 2 week old chicks that she never sent pictures of even though I had asked several times. Very frustrated.

Think some more cookies will help...
Lapeerian,
Went to a tack auction today too. Got a grazing muzzle. (Anyone need one? It is dusty, but brand new. PM me as I got a great deal on it and want to make a couple dollars and send it to a home where it is needed.) Also some safety reflectors for headband and legs, a brush, a christmas gift and two brass stall latches. Scored a saddle cover for my kids saddle too. Lots of rain here too and more to come tomorrow and tuesday. Lawn needs to be mown again.

I also find it frustrating to have a full schedule and then have it all mucked up.

Happy hatching to everyone. Broodies are lots of fun and soooo much less work than hatching and raising chicks.

Chickens are going through less feed now that they have part time access to the lawn through temporarty fencing.

Rancher: Hope you are feeling well as I haven't seen your posts lately.

I had a hen prolapse a vent after laying a huge egg. I'd keep on eye on her backside........ Egg is beautiful though......
