NY chicken lover!!!!

Peter brown the other day on the chicken whisperer show said the big poultry houses use the nitrogen cooled stuff, but the stuff sold to consumers/small farmers is the kind that comes in the wafer (that goes bad in an hour AFTER you mix it). So there's two types to get! :)

We just had a Poultry event and the DVM from Cornell said that Marek's vaccine had to be stored in liquid nitrogen. Do you have something new?

Now I am really really bumming. The one surviving chick was pecked to death by the other birds. Momma didn't come defend it cuz she wouldn't get off the lone remaining egg. Cripes. Now what do I do to break her broodiness? Hurry up and hatch D'uccles. I have a momma waiting for you.

And I have a D'uccle broody in the sand on the floor. SHE is getting covered with the basket when I give her eggs. Right now she is trying to hatch some moth balls from the golf balls she keeps turning and moving around her corner of the coop. To tell you how weirded out I am over the chick losses of the past 2 days , I put a golf ball in the nest box she is nesting BEHIND just to see her try and roll it over the lip of the box. She did it, but not without difficulty. And I just stood there and laughed at her. Poor Hen. She deserves a sane Chicken Momma.....

OH, and we lost 1/2 hour pay cuz the in-service training was done a 1/2 hour early. Sheesh....I got up, I got dressed, I showed up before the appointed hour and *I* get shafted $5? How is that fair? (and yes, I make that little an hour.....)

Just brought in one of my golden laced wyandotte hens who is making weird noises when she breathes in and out... any ideas? it sounds like whooo haaaa who ha over and over with each breath...

Shes acting fine otherwise... free ranging and eating/drinking. Should I keep her separate?

DH and I have quite a few different breeds that we've accumulated the past few years. It all started with 6 red sexlinks from TSC, now we have about 90. We have blue laced red wyandotte, golden cuckoo maran, BBS maran, silver ameracauna, delaware (thank you to rancher), project olive eggers (blue barred), buff brahma bantam, and whatever random ones we run across that strike our fancy. This spring we hatched out a couple lemon cuckoo orpingtons just for the fun of having a couple. Feed can get expensive and it takes some time to care for them but they're worth it. Our girls and us just enjoy the whole of having them around! I wish you the same fun and enjoyment!

I started with 3 and now am up to over 50.. My husband reminds me weekly I thought you said only 12 max ever.

Guess I have morehens disease also.... it must be contagious.

Cass, I am so sorry things are hard right now. Deep breaths, you will figure it out, then the whole summer will be fine. Here's a hug for you.

Thank you. I DO have a Morning Glory in bloom IN the house. (Think I started them early enough? LOL) So that made me smile.

Someone actually WANTS the Preschool stuff I have been trying to unload for almost 3 years. So THAT made me smile. (meeting her tomorrow to hand it over, hope she brings a BIG car)

And my Broody D'uccle trusts me enough to get off her golf balls (giggle) to go outside and eat (I am her babysitter, it seems) And THAT made me smile.

OH, and I get to sleep late tomorrow. That is GONNA make me smile. Life, with chickens, will get better. I know it will, but I think 4 chicks lost in 2 days (and the other 3 eggs not looking like they are going to hatch) was more than I am able to deal with right now. I think I need chocolate. LOTS of chocolate.

Code:
I'm all for chocolate. Just had 3 oreos a minute ago. (Trying not to have more...)

Edited because I can't type with two fingers.
