NY chicken lover!!!!

Does anyone else hate this new Byc? I may get 1 notice that someone posted to the NY byc a day, but thats it..I find it frustrating, and annoying that the "back" button doesn't work here anymore!

I'm not much of a fan of the changes. Seems like everytime they get the subscriptions thing fixed for a while, it just breaks again.

Sue, there's a thread that Nifty just started, it seems some of the e-mail gurus are checking into it.
I have AOL, and haven't gotten crap since the update. In fact AOL seems to be a big problem with everyone.

BTW, your chicks are doing GREAT. The Marans girls are beautiful, got 2 boys as well, they are so klutzy.
And the Sussex all seem to be girls, unless I am hallucinating or something stoopid.
And the lavs, I think it's only one boy, but not sure.
I love them all! Thanks again!

Today's tasks were relocating the broody to a new broody pen and moving the ducks outside into the coop, since they're getting a bit stinky for the garage. I have a big coop - 20' x 20' - and have plenty of floor space, so I decided to put the ducks in with the chooks. I figured I'd do the introduction on neutral ground, as it'd be easier to break up any potential fights. So, I broke out my trusty roll of deer netting, fenced off the top of the yard where we let the girls range with supervision, and let the chickens out, much to their delight. Then I let the ducks out of their pen in the garage and opened the back garage door to the yard. The ducks just stared out the door at first, and then ventured outside. It was the most anticlimactic thing I've ever seen. Ducks and chickens ignored one another almost completely. At one point, my chief roo came over, cocked his head, and just studied the ducks, like, "what ARE you?", but that was it. There was no aggression whatsoever - each species acts like the other doesn't exist. As evening fell, the chickens headed back into the run and the coop. The ducks entered the run as well (they spotted food), but had no clue what to do from there, so we caught them one by one and popped them through the pop door. They're currently settled in the litter on the floor of the coop in the roosting room, and seem fine. We have an old doghouse we're going to put into the run and fill with straw tomorrow so the ducks can sleep outside if they choose to do so. After all, they don't crow, so it's fine if they're up puttering around early in the morning.

My broody is now in a bigger pen in the coop playroom, as the whole "under the nest boxes" thing was getting old. The chickies are still too small to be confined by the dog pen, as I discovered when the four of them popped through the fence and then stood outside crying while my poor ditzy hen tried to squeeze through to get to them. So, they're in a 4' x 3' pen made of a big board, an old screen, and two walls of the coop, and that setup is surrounded by the dog fence so that the crazy Sussex hen can't get to the chicks. When I moved Mama and the little ones, the nutty Sussex was right there, calling to the babies and trying to get to them. The dingbat needs to go broody and raise her own! It'll be interesting when my BLRW's babies hatch, as she's liable to administer a beatdown if the crazy hen gets near her kids.

Regarding the lack of update emails. I gave up on them a LONG time ago....I hit the "subscription" word at the top of the page and it takes me to my list of threads I subscribed to. That list tells me if there are any updates and clicking the name of the thread takes me to the last entry I read. Works for me and lets me choose who I want to read/bother right then.

Regarding chicks? OMG, why do I do this to myself. Happyhensny gave me 3 tiny D'uccles and I just shoved them under my silkie who has been sitting for 30 days cuz her chicks died of exposure and one egg was infertile and she wasn't going to leave it til it hatched. I gave her 2 new eggs to keep her on the nest and now she has 3 tiny chicks under her. I SINCERELY hope she doesn't kill them in the morning. I really don't want to get up early to check, but I'll set the alarm and if she isn't taking care of them I'll bring them back in the house and ...I don't know what I'll do with them, cuz I don't have room to raise them and then intigrate them. And they won't be very big, so integration is gonna be hard. So, silkie mom? Please be a good mom and raise them for me.

I actually started that no subscription emails thread, but only a few people responded, so I don't think they realize there's a problem. I was getting them until a few days ago, then nothing. CHanged email addresses and now they are coming in. So if anyone else has the problem, post in that thread to let them know! =)

Oh featherz, ssoooo cute!!!!

It looks like you will have mottle Javas!

Is that what they are? I kept wondering why they have white feathers since I thought they'd end up black =). (I don't care what color they are, just was interesting). In either case, they are probably all gonna get eaten because mama and mama keep leading them into the woods and only bringing 1/2 of them back. The other half runs around peeping like they are being eaten and human mama has to run in the tick infested woods to try and catch them. :)

Yesterday I had the bright idea to go catch a mom chicken to cluck the others in. That worked once, but the second time my rooster freaked out (and he NEVER does that) because he thought I was torturing mom chicken. /sigh. :)

I just wanted to post this here if anyone's interested. This is my brother who has colon cancer that has matasisized. All help is appreciated plus holding an event makes the family feel not so helpless in the situatuion. I went home yesterday to visit and it made me think to share with you guys.
