As for the fencing, we finished the electric wiring on both coops yesterday. We went budget, so it cost something like $150 total to do both coops. Pretty sure the cat got a taste of it since I saw him streaking across the yard last night when he usually hangs out with me while I do my evening chores. Poor kitty. He's fine tho! =) I'd love the electric netting, but that's really meant for peeps with a few chickens and a little run or for use as a portable run. I'd need over 100 feet of the stuff - $$$$$$$.

My chickens are NOT happy being cooped up.. I'll probably start giving them free range time again in a week or so when I am sitting outside with them.

Afternoon all. Been busy finishing up all the wire on the silkie coop so the tots are nice and safe now. Finally got the hardware on the door and the chain on the pop door. The tots didnt seem to mind the noise much. Switched the tots and terrorists over to grower/finisher. They didnt like the organic feed I had to buy, probably because it was ground too fine for them. I will have to use it to make a mash or something.

Stripe and her babies are now fully integrated into the flock so no more separation in the coop. Her sister Sassy has taken over some of the mommy duties as well so everyone is happy. I did, however, break 2 eggs in my pocket last night when I was attempting to catch the older chick to put it back in the coop. I was mad, mostly at myself, for doing so. Wont be doing that again any time soon!

The weather is dreary and thats how I am feeling as well. All work and no play has left me very tired and cranky. At least my cheeps dont mind. Got more hatching eggs coming. Going to try this one more time...hopefully successfully this time!

I'd thought my big Buff Orp Mrs. Beasley's eggs were due Wednesday, as I hadn't marked it on the calendar. Nope - they were due today! I have new peeps!

She has a little light tan and white fuzzy butt and a darker tan fuzzy butt so far, with two eggs yet to go. She got Generic Light Brown eggs, making these who's-your-mama chicks. She objects to my looking at them, and she puffed up to the size of a volleyball and growled like a demon when she saw another hen, so she'll be a good mom. I have her blockaded into her nest box with poultry netting and tape (redneck ghetto barricade for the win!) at the moment to keep the psycho SS hen from trying a snatch and run with the little ones.

I almost feel sorry for my avatar hen. She is going back into broody mode because she hears the new peeps, and is sitting in a nest box clucking to her nonexistent babies. She was pretty well out of it, but she's on a roll again. Argh.

Also, Last Rooster Standing is just asking to join his brothers at Camp Crock-Pot. Now that he's the only roo, he's trying to challenge me for the top spot by staring at me and rushing at the fence when I'm on the other side of it. He sensibly backs down and gets away from me when I respond by stomping my foot, staring at him, growling, or stalking him, and stays well away when I'm on the same side of the fence as he is, but I'm half-expecting him to have a go at me sometime soon. Try it, buddy, and you're an entree. Rope, deck, utility and skinning knives - some disassembly required.
