NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all.

I am an epic fail at hatching. Of the 13 in the bator, I only got one chick and I had to help it out as it was shrinkwrapped. I dont understand why that happened as I had two sponges in there full of water. I opened the other eggs and they were all shrink wrapped as well. I am done hatching. From now on, I will let my silkies hatch if they want to. This killed me. I took a loss on the eggs and on the chicks. At least I have one chick and I am hoping its a pullet. I will have to see if my witchy girl Sassy will take it tonight. This kills me.

Lots of running around taking care of coops this am since I spent yesterday afternoon in the er with a gallbladder attack. I dont wish that on anyone! I have one more test to do before they tell me if it has to come out or not. Not a good time for this. Now I know how my daughter felt last year when she had her attacks. She had hers taken out. Since I have eaten breakfast with no problems, I guess I will go to work today. Hopefully it will stay quiet and leave me alone.

The boys started crowing at 5 this morning and have deepened their voices a bit. When I let everyone out of the big coop, one of the boys jumped one of the girls and tried to mate with her. She wasnt having it and screamed rape the whole time. Ahhh puberty...let the games begin!

Stay cool everyone!

Maybe its not you but the incubator.....If you get more eggs I could hatch them for you if you want and get them back to you as days olds...... So sorry to hear of you r loss...

I don't know what is up, but I can read updates in my email and they don't show up here on the thread.

Listen ... my meal worms went from 2,000 to tens of thousands .... if anyone is interested in purchasing some, let me know ...lol
If not, what am I going to do with all these worms?

Can't you freeze them? How and why do you grow Meal worms? You might try freezing them and bagging them and selling them on CL. If that's possible.

Kamir - I have four pages on incubation from a past issue of Practical Poultry that I can send by e-mail.

Thanks all. Maybe it is the bator. I am done for now. Any more hatching will be done by silkies, not me. I am going to try to put the baby under my witchy silkie girl as she likes to steal everyone elses babies. I am hoping she will accept this one.

Hotter than Hades today and I had to spend it running around from dr to dr and test to test. Still no real definition as to what exactly happened. No results till monday I guess. The cheeps seemed no worse for wear when I got home. They will get frozen watermelon tomorrow for treats. At least this whatever it is has gotten me 3 days of rest from work so I am holing up in my house with the ac on and resting. Probably wont get another chance for this again!

Ginny--it may be the bator. I bought it used on craigs list last year and it was okay then but it could be faulty now. I might consider a new one next year if I sell enough stuff to get a good one. I would like a brinsea but I dont have that kind of chicken egg money right now!

Night all.

We have Bluebirds that love them and the chickens love them ... I put them on CL but no bites yet... I think I will freeze them ..... at least most of them ... it's a pretty neat process, actually ...

I let my BLRW broody and her three five-day-old chicks out of the pen this morning, as they're big and active enough to follow their mama around. My wench of a Jersey Giant broody decided to make it exciting for everyone involved. When she heard the chicks and their mom's clucks, she came in from the run and immediately went after the BLRW. As my big girl is a bit of a coward and the JG is quite frankly insane, at first the Wyandotte bolted for the other room in the coop, leaving the chicks behind. The JG hustled over to the chicks, and I grabbed my trusty hay fork, figuring that she was going to attack them and that I would be intervening to prevent bloodshed. Nope. Instead, the little wretch fluffed herself up and started calling to them, trying to get them to follow her outside. They almost went for it, too - at first they were looking at her like "you aren't our mommy!", but then they started to approach her.

Alas for the JG, the BLRW has been broody since forever and is doing well with the chicks. I wasn't about to allow Lenore to double her family size instantly at Daphne's expense, so I picked her up, chucked her out the pop door and back to her own kids, and blocked her out for a while until the newest family got settled again. Everyone has the proper number of chicks this evening, so either the Wyandotte finally administered a clue-by-four or the roo took charge. Goofy things - so much drama!

Hopalong is doing very well. He (for the moment, he's a roo until proven otherwise, mostly because I'm sick of calling him "it") is all over the run and into as much trouble as his bipedal siblings. When he speed-hops, he flaps the wing on that side like mad to maintain his balance, which is working out well for him. He does put the foot down, but not for long - at least he's still trying to use it!

I do have a brinsea, and as I said, I would be happy to do a hatch for you!!!

So, is it still assumed that you have a gallbladder issue?
