NY chicken lover!!!!

Do any of you NY chicken folk also raise turkeys? We are thinking about getting some next year. I have a bunch of questions about raising turkeys in general and also about raising them with chickens. I can't seem to find a good comprehensive resource to learn about it. With the chickens, I found so many websites that told you everything you needed to know to get started in 5 pages or less! The stuff I am finding on turkeys is less useful. If any of you have experience with turkeys, I would really love to talk to you more about them!

Thanks!

Anyone have a nice Blue Copper Marans Roo up for grabs. I gave a friend a REALLY nice roo (when he was 8 weeks old) and he was killed by a fox this week. He was about 24 weeks old and I told her I try to find her a replacement. Anyone have one?

I do not know why I am having such a hard time finding them, (short of driving cross state, and I have thought about it

LOL) Have you ever been to the poultry show AT GVCM in Mumford? I think it is in Oct. Maybe I can find one there

I went to GVCM last october, but it was late in the day and all the poultry were packing up and leaving. My friends drive horses there. This year we will have to get there early to check out the poultry. Seemed pretty small, but I have only been to the state fair and that was pretty big.

The State Fair does seem huge! The pictures I have seen of the pervious years at Mumford look nice though, I am really going to try to go. Things have pretty much slowed down on the farm by then, so I don't think it will be a problem.

I just noticed you have a lab beagle mix, we do also. She was my foster dog for a local rescue group I volunteer for, but we feel in love with her...She is a complete failure as a lab and a beagle

She hangs out with the chickens all day, I think she thinks she may be one, but it works out perfectly, she is a little protective of them...

Hi everyone, been busy with work and still trying to sell our house so we can move to FL to be with family (My sister down there had her first baby Thursday Jasper David 8 lbs 2 oz!) Whoo hooo!!! He's a cutie!
Anyways, I wanted to pop on and post this for a coworker that is moving, he wanted me to put the word out that he has 7 FREE goats (NUNDA, MT-MORRIS AREA) pickup only, he called lollypop farm but they wanted him to transport them. I know nothing about their sexes, ages, etc, he just said he has 6 pygmy and 1 Large goat and doesn't want them going anywhere to get eaten.... if you know anyone, please call him at 585-313-8956 his name is Gary, tell him Amy from Strong Hospital told you about the goats.

Hope everyone has been doing well, it's kinda lonely at my place as I have only kept a few hens and 1 roo until we move :-(

Rachel, I got your email, so glad you had a great time, we got the same severe rainstorm in Maine and came home wet + tired too, but had a BLAST! If we are still here come this fall, I'd love to meet up with some fellow BYC'ers in Mumford, I had a blast at the chicken show when we went a few years ago. WE NEED TO GET TOGETHER!

Stay cool everyone!
Amy

I had NO problem selling my chickens this year and still have people bugging me for the last few I have, did you try posting on craigslist? I have had AWESOME luck selling stuff on their from chicks to my old car

Not really, I have people emailing all the time for hens, LOL I think I could have sold at least 75 this season, I may have to order pullets or something for next year!

I still have a couple Buff Duck hens, I'm debating about dropping the breed, they just have not been popular at all. I did get best Waterfowl at the fair with a Buff Duck hen, the judge said she was pretty nice (cuz I asked if she was actually decent, or if she was just the best duck out of a pen full of crappy ducks!)

I do still have a couple Roos available (who doesn't, LOL) I have a Bantam Splash Cochin, a LF Splash Cochin and a young Black Split Ameracauana Roo. (I think...)

I have folks waiting for me to get off my behind and go thru my rabbit litters and let them know what for sale too.

I may just be shopping at the Bath auction this year, since I keep killing the eggs (still, sigh) I'm hoping to have some stuff for the Chickenstock in Oct though.

If anyone wants to trade, I'm looking for the following: SQ Cayuga Trio, Mini Silver Appeyard Trio, SQ LF Black Ameracauana Roo and a SQ White Silkie Roo. I need the Roos to be old enough to "go to work", I have Roos in waiting, but nothing old enough. I traded someone for a Black Silkie Roo since I haven't had time to go pick one up anyplace!

I had a Fox or a Mink decide that our farmette was on the menu, I lost three meat chickens, two ducks and a Silkie hen.

Naturally, the ducks and the meat chickens were slatted for dinner this weekend! Of course, did it eat the rabbit killing meat chicken? Nope, of course not. We had that for dinner last night!
