NY chicken lover!!!!

Well we should be up to 5 eggs today from my son's hen "Golden Star" our BOxBlackSexLink mix. They've been kind of small compared to the store bought large white eggs we're used to eating so I've been saving them up since my parents come up today so that we can cook them tomorrow and everyone can try them. I'm still waiting for my lavender orp hen to lay. But then again, I just checked and she won't even be 20 wks until 9/4. She has been squatting in the yard though which leaves me to believe she's almost ready.

Decided to clean up area around the stream that runs down the right hand side of our yard yesterday. Cleared out all the brush and weeds growing and threw some logs down along side where the water runs. Looks so much better, the chickens loved it. Thats where they do most of their drinking from anyway but now it looks a lot nicer rather than muddy puddles that you could barely see before. I'd love to grab some of that tall green grass I see growing everywhere up here and throw that in there, but I'm thinking I may just go to a nursery and get some grasses to keep most of the brush/weeds away.

Went out to lowes last night and bought some wood, locks, brackets to start building my new coop for the silkies. Up to about $100 so far but thats only because I bouught myself a jigsaw to cut all this wood with so I wouldn't be making a million trip back and forth to the store. Can't wait to see how this goes!

Heh, pretty sure if they are leghorns they better lay white eggs =) =). I did get three little brown leghorns and so far they are peeping away!!

Yah, I'll probably go on the eighth. Haven't decided on Q-tip (my americauna roo) - I'm waiting for one of the crowing crowd to do something annoying so I can pick who goes. Have a pretty chantecler roo that needs to go, but seems a waste to drag him to the auction all alone. Tempted to put him up on CL as a pair if no one will take him by himself.
Is q- tip your only am roo you are thinking about selling?

Go Lynzi! Remember, its not real unless we have pictures of the coop!

Egg song has been going on all morning. So far I have 4 eggs from the terrorist coop. They are becoming laying machines. I am averaging around a dozen to 14 eggs a day between all the cheeps and not all of the reds are laying yet (I have 19 in that coop). This is awsome and all my egg customers are very happy.

My broody silkie girls have finally stopped being broody (thank goodness) so I should be getting eggs again from them pretty soon. It will be nice when I dont have to fight with the girls every night to get them back in the coop. Now I am just down to sassy, and she is a very fiesty girl!

Off to the pharm for another long fun exciting day!

Oh I will definitely takes pics! However, I already feel like I need to make another trip out for wood. I've been looking around on these forums at pictures of peoples home made coops, trying to get some ideas on where to even start, and I definitely need some more wood!

I went the fair Tuesday. It was switch out day so there werent that many to see. I did see on the ones for sale was how much the owner wanted and a contact #.

Well, they are certainly longer than my own.  I will not need to put mascara on the top lashes, but one could if one wanted.  Took about an hour.  You have to keep your eyes closed for the process.  When I opened my eyes they burned like crazy and watered.  They were a bit red.  I purposely went shopping at Target after.  No one STARED at me so even though I felt really weird, I think I did not LOOK freakish!!  Anyway, I think that the glue is really toxic and doing it once in my life it is ok, but doing it regularly would be a bad idea.  As far as upkeep, I have to try not to get them wet for 24 hours, and do not use a eyelash curler.  But after that I should have them for 4-6 weeks!!  I will keep you posted as to " how a farmer does with false eyelashes" !!!!:)

Ok ...burning?? Ouch ;( PHOTOS!!!! Close up of eyes!!! Id give it a go :D

I am a newbie and have a quick question for you. My girls get layer pellets every day and fresh grass, veggies (either greens, cantelope, watermelon, tomatoes) every day. I also try & let them out to roam the yard every day. They love the bugs around the garden & wood pile :) They also get some BOSS or crack corn every few days to encourage them to scratch up their run,

They even tried some cube steak leftovers yesterday. Loved it !!! And one of the girls who wasnt near plate came squaking over with her wings flapping cuz she realized her sister had some tasty treats lol

My question is that the girls who came running over had some yellow poop. Does chicken poop change colors depending on what they eat? They are all acting happy & healthy. Eyes are clear and their feathers look ok. (they are starting to molt so they all look a little haggard) She is in fact very vocal and loves to flap her wings lol

Was helping Pyxis out in her chick order- and I wanted brown leghorns, which no one seemed to have local. =( Wish I could have made the meet, but t'was not to be.

Anyone going to Schuylerville week after next? Probably going to bring a couple of extra roos - still deciding who needs to go.

I would try to score some from Don Schrider in NC. He writes for Backyard Poultry mag and he's the expert I'd go to if I wanted brown Leghorns. I never wanted leghorns cuz they're to flighty. They are pretty birds for sure.
