Hello everyone!

I just found this thread! I am in Freeville NY - about 5 miles north of Ithaca and am getting ready for my very first winter with chickens...any tips you have for handling NY weather would be awesome!!

I have a small coop and 4 lovely ladies, only 2 of them (Golden Comets of course!) are laying right now....my Barred Rock and my Ameraucana are holding out!!

Will they start to lay in the winter?? Is that normal?

They'll be fine in a draft free coop. The only extra I do is use a heated bucket for a waterer and a small low wattage light on a timer to keep them laying somewhat. They will lay but it may be delayed since their laying cycle is based on the amount of daylight.

I'd be interested in going halfsies on a pullet pack in late winter/early spring with anyone close to me - I have to work full time so getting to the post office to pick up chicks isn't too possible anymore. PM me if you're interested in something like this in a few months! I'm in gansevoort but work in albany, so either works for me.

Anyone interested in a LF black ameraucana pair from John Blehm? If not I think he's going to go to freezer camp because I have waaaaayyyyy to many roosters. They are 21 weeks.

What are you asking for the pair? I just rid myself of 10 roosters today so I have some room and have always wanted black ameraucanas.......would have to put up some more fence though...hmmm
