Other than Chicken stalker does anyone belong to a club and what are they like? When do you meet and how many members? Do you show your birds in any other venues than your specific club? How has it helped?
I shouldnt because its going to get me in trouble but I think I am going to throw a few of my Wheaten Ameraucana eggs in the incubator, I also have a hen that me be going broody. I just gave away 10 roosters so I finally have room!

no, just busy rancher! I am not starting any hatches, but my 2 broodies are hard at work....had 5 chicks hatch last week and have another broody due to hatch 11/1. What will I do with all these chicks? I hope both broodies can live happily together or I will have to separate the mamas from thier babies and raise just the babies together. Really didn't want to have to supply heat for them though, lets hope they can co-exist so the broodies can keep them warm.
besides not getting any eggs....all my hens (except my 2 leghorns) are molting. When molting is over it will seem like I hit the egg jackpot, but for now I barely get enough eggs to eat! plus I dewormed them since they aren't gonna lay anyway. But I refuse to buy eggs!
My younger girls are laying and I've put a light in the coop and keep it on for longer hours. I also changed back to a layer feed. I've been mixing it with CAL-GRO that was recommended on here. I've wormed recently too with Expernex or something like that. I got 8 eggs yesterday.
My broody with three seems to be done with her chicks early and they are in with the flock and seem to be ok. I never seperated broodies. I've just probably been lucky that the chicks survived.
I'm getting ready to start a hatch, so I can get ahead start come spring.
rancher - do you free range or have runs for your chickens? I worry about putting the chicks with the flock cause I cannot free range and I have some not so nice hens. The last broody I had didn't seem to care to defend her chicks...i found one dead and have always wondered if the other hen that was in with her killed it or if it was nature.
R- I do free range, and they've been out in the yard since they were born. I did have one get wounded (there were four) but it was rather severe and none of the others was hurt. I have no idea what happened and no one pecked on it's wound. I seperated it and treated it but it died anyhow. The others are all doing ok. I can't say they will always do ok, just that so far things have worked out. Last time i had two broodies hatching a bunch and chicks were popping out all over the place. They were staggered and I was scooping up chicks everyday.
I know they say to seperate broodies but I had no room and just let things go as they will. They only chicks lost were the ones the moms squashed in the beginning. I have seperated hens before and things worked out just about the same.
I gave some eggs to Trish to hatch for us. I have to go out of town so won't be here at hatching time.
Sun- it's so wet here I was just thinking maybe i should switch to ducks and geese instead of chickens.
yesterday was sooo nice I cleaned out (big time stinky deep litter) all the coops to get them ready for winter. Got out the heater bases (didn't plug in yet) and made everything a comphy for the winter months. Put the a light on a timer so I can get some eggs during those dark days. All I have left is to put plastic sheeting up so the don't get a cold breeze every time I open the barn.
