Hi , I have friends that are looking for some more chickens . Is there anyone locally that is planning to get rid of some hens for the winter ? Free would be great ..Or a small fee ?

I've thrown mine halved pineapples that have become too overripe for my tastes. They pick all the flesh off and leave the skins.
They're extremely pleased with me right now. I found a freezer-burned roast of who knows what vintage in our big freezer, so I put it out in the run like a meatsicle. They've been working at it for about an hour now, hacking off tiny pieces, and appear to be enjoying it thoroughly.
Yah, I'm going out there to check him as soon as it's darker, but I am sure he's ok. He was just in shock, but an hour or so later he was chasing down the ladies, so he can't be that bad off. =) My other roo was cowering under a tree with the other ladies LOL. Gomez actually did his job!Featherz
Sorry to hear about Gomez, best wishes on him recovering well, he did a good job at sounding the alarm and protecting his lady, hopefully he recovers quickly.
Ugh, just had my first hawk attack of the year.. went outside and heard SCREAMING and saw 'something' over at my back coop and lots of flapping.. ran back there and a huge hawk was fighting with Gomez, my NN rooster. Screamed at the hawk, which finally flew off (took him a sec and lots of me yelling) and Gomez was off in the woods, feathers everywhere. Finally coaxed him back in the electric fence - he's got at least one puncture wound and seems a bit shocky, but he's alert enough to not let me catch him. I'll have to see how he is tonight. But he did protect his ladies!! There was a NN hen near the altercation all crouched down and unharmed, so I think Gomez took one for the team. So far he's alive. Guess everyone stays locked up tomorrow while at work. =(
