NY chicken lover!!!!

we have a crowing chorus up on my hill, apparently starts around 4:30. most mornings, I don't hear them til 6ish, and they are in full swing... but my one main neighbor tells me it's 4:30...
I have 3 cockerels, all kinda tenor on the scale, the new neighbor a half mile down has at least 3 roos, and the one almost a half mile up has bantams. the bantams are so cute sounding... they all take turns... no complaints from the main neighbor, she doesn't have chickens anymore, but has ducks and geese, and so far, says she enjoys the crowing as she is already up and about by 4:30.

I actually thought it was going to be a lot worse than it is when I found out one of my lavender orps was a Roo. My neighbor actually made a comment about how pretty she thinks he is turning out to be so I highly doubt she'd ever make a stink about him. She has about 30 chickens but all are hens, no Roos. We actually went over there today to feed the horse some apples and her second flock came running out of their run and flocked around my daughter as if she had treats for them. I swear she's the chicken whisperer. She's the only one that can pet them, pick them up and be around them without them acting all skittish and running away. It's so weird.

At the show on Sunday, someone had a rooster for sale that had the L---O---N---G---E----S----T crow I have EVER heard. He flat out crowed until he ran out of breath and had a little crack at the end. His owner said that he crows all day and in that ridiculous way. It was so funny.

Do you know what got the Champions at the show? I had to leave by 11:00, and was wondering what won. There was a lot of beautiful birds there.

Framac

Unfortunately, I don't know. I checked them out quick, they were beautiful, but I didn't really take the time to check out the actual breeds of the winners. I had to get home. Sorry

The roo I had to give away was like that! He had a huge, long, loud crow and he'd go until he couldn't force any more air out. At the end there was a crackly "gwaaaaaap" of him gasping air back in. He used to crow all day and night like that!

Welcome! JayinCohoes This place is a blast you are sure to learn a bunch. There is nothing like chicken poop for fertilizer, just make sure to let is age first or apply it in the winter after harvest. Chicken manure is very high in nitrogen and needs to decompose a bit first or else it will burn your plants.
