NY chicken lover!!!!

Hey Kathy! I just found this thread and it was nice seeing your name! I'm not sure if you remember me but I visited you last summer and I bought a Welsh Harlequin duck, an Ancona duck and a chocolate colored hybrid drake from you. My husband and I were in love with your goslings and we talked about splitting an order....any recollection? I am sorry I didn't respond to your emails, my email system shut down in the middle of a reply to you and then I lost your email so I am so happy you are posting here and I can update you on the duckies! The Ancona and WH are doing fantastic, they are fat, happy and so very sweet and are really good egg layers (other than when they went on strike last week, lol). Unfortunately the hybrid drake got kidnapped by something along with another one of our ducks. We don't let them out unsupervised anymore but they don't seem to mind. We have been bringing them inside to bathe in the tub and they love that and they are spoiled rotten with treats all the time. We just last night shipped off some eggs to someone to test them in their incubator so we are hoping for good results. We only have the one drake right now (the pekin) so we aren't sure if he is fertilizing the eggs or not. We are thinking about setting up our incubator this summer and giving hatching a shot but we are expecting a new baby in April so we want to wait until he is here and things have calmed down a bit. So how have you been? Oh, here is a picture from last fall after we let the ducks swim in our swimming pool before we closed it down....

Hi TatooQ27! Welcome! Kathy has some beautiful ducks! I think I may get some from her in the spring

You must be fairly close to me? I'm in the town of Newburgh. Just wanted to say hello, its so great there are lots of people around this area!

Congratulations also! April is not that far away! You must be very excited

Those ducks are adorable!!

If anyone has any idea where I can get some Indian Runner ducklings in my area (Watkins Glen, but I am willing to drive), I would love some help. My 9yo is devastated right now, as I bought 20 eggs for him as a gift. During the incubation, my incubator completely lost it and not a single egg hatched.

His Mallards flew away for the winter (hopefully they'll be back) and I have no idea where I can find some Indian Runners. I don't want eggs, as I can't hatch them right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry I dont know anyone that has runners. Wish I could help.

We have mallards too and I was afraid they would fly off so I clipped thier wings. They probably wouldnt leave as they are really attached to our pekins which try really hard to get a lift off but they arent going anywhere lol. But I didnt want to chance it. I would have a very, very upset 5 and 7 year olds.

Hey, TattooQ27!!!!!
What a pleasant surprise to hear from you!! Of course I remember you......senility hasn't quite set in (yet)......smile!! You, your husband and that sweet baby were here on July 18th......see, I even remember the date. The ducks look absolutely fantastic.......I can tell they are well cared for!!! Thanks for posting the pic!! Sorry to hear about the drake and the other duck. I never leave my flock unattended for long.....too many things out there want to eat them. Congrats on the new baby to soon be born!!!! And I'm pretty sure those duck eggs are probably fertile......you should have some very pretty ducklings!! Please keep in touch and keep us all posted on the ducks and the babies(both human and feathered....smile)!!!! Will email you real soon!!! Welcome to this "NY" thread!!!
Warmest Regards,
Kathy
P.S. I hatched a couple of chickens since you were here in July......smile!!!

Good Morning, Everyone!!!
It's great to learn of all the people in The Empire State that enjoy raising chickens and ducks!!!! We'll have to work on finding more people in the Northern Tier so you'all can connect to share orders, etcetera!! I'm going to "put the word out". I know they're out there....just gotta find them!!
Riqui1, sorry to hear that your incubator malfunctioned and none of the Runner eggs hatched. Very disappointing!! And hopefully the 2 Mallards will return home again soon!! I have 2 Fawn/White Runner ducks......but no drake to go with them. Last Spring I hatched a whole bunch of Runner hybrids that were absolutely adorable......very much Runner in type......in a beautiful rainbow of colors. If you'd like some of them this Spring/Summer just let me know. People really liked them....so I guess I'll be hatching more. I can send you some pics if you like.
Let's keep this "NY" forum going strong!!! Others will eventually find it......and the more, the merrier!!! Have a fantastic day...and pray for a mild, short-lived Winter.
Waiting For the Warmth to Return,
Kathy

Ancona: I may just take you up on that, should I not figure something out between now and then. I feel horrible for my 9yo, as he was so excited about the hatching. I warned him repeatedly, but that didn't matter.

I hope you all are enjoying this little thaw that we are having. I know my chickens are happier when they can run around the yard some!
