NY chicken lover!!!!

number of chickens. I really don't think I want to know exactly. All I know for sure is the freezer will gain around a dozen roosters soon. I know I have 12 ducks. MANY dozens of chickens. Not quite triple digits (I don't think) but darn close

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! It's been a while since I've been on. Had some drama here this weekend with the inlaws here. Came home from the mall to find out they had the bright idea of letting my silkies out-I was soooo PO'ed!!! The orps weren't out so of course they let them out AFTER they let the silkies out. My big lavender Roo came over and chased Pearl, (Tabs white Silkie, I just got a month or two ago) into the woods. All this after I explained to my father inlaw why I don't always let the silkies out to free range, and how they cannot be let out the same time as my orps! My kids know better too so when I came in and questioned what the heck happened both my kids turn towards my mother inlaw and say "Grammie told us, it was her idea"! Are you kidding me!?! Pearl was found thank goodness! My father inlaw mowed my entire lawn the next day to make up for it. LOL I was more mad at my MIL than anyone else. Just the fact that I came in asking what happened and she responded very carelessly "it was my fault sorry" before Pearl was even found ticked my right off. Like oh, sure it's just a chicken! I'll get over it. UGH So glad she is gone.

As far as chicken count goes, you all still have me beat. I have my 6 - 4 hens and 2 roos. No chicken math or down sizing here! ;-)

Sometimes people just don't understand how much love, time, and energy go into our chickens. They just don't understand.

My 2 yr old nephew came over last weekend with my MIL and FIL, my nephew was chasing my silkies around and stepped right on the smallest and my best white silkie. I had already asked him not to chase them, my FIL was letting him run all over. I was furious because my FIL just sat there laughing. These are my future showbirds and I have put alot of work into them. I too, was P O'd, in fact...livid. My little pullet was ok, but he easily could have seriously hurt her, then what "oh sorry."? Yeah right.

Cotton, the little one on the left.

That's just ... so disrespectful ... I guess that's the best word. Post a sign, or two... Do Not Open, and No Running... or maybe "Do Not Enter Unattended By Caretaker"
I can't imagine anyone doing that... I am so stunned and I am so relieved that Pearl and Cotton are safe once more...

next year. Button buck. No doe tags in my zone

. If I had been practicing with my bow and bought a bow licence you would be seeing an entirely different picture.

But I haven't been....so....
I could have shot a button buck lasst night bow hunting and a lot of does. Seen 8 does total, a button buck, and a 4 point but the bucks were to far. :(

Morning all. Glad to hear everyones cheeps are okay after the runins with family. The falcon was back yesterday afternoon shortly after I let out my silkies and the big girls (hen group). The girls ran under the trees and i was in the yard right next to my silkies armed with my rake. The falcon left after a while since there was no chance of a free meal happening at our place.

Adorava--I guess you never found your missing two birds. Sounds like you are doing well building your flock though.

Button bucks are nice to see but I prefer to take the older bucks or does. Imo, its good to let them grow up and see how they mature and pass on their genes. Oh, had another bear pass through again. This time it was a youngster. Instead of a camera, he grabbed his pellet rifle this time. (He had been after some red squirrels earlier) At least he is upgrading what he grabs on his way out the door! The bear didnt stop moving, just kept running through. The terrorists and the hens were still out freeranging at that point as well so I am glad it kept moving.

Chicken count? 42 of which 5 are roosters.

Awwwww she is so cute!! But you're right, people just don't understand. My jaw just dropped when she was like "It was my fault, sorry" and kept on with her games she was playing with the kids. Wonder what her reaction would be if I lost her dog and was like, Oh, sorry... and continues doing what I was doing. I feel like I have to play babysitter whenever they come up for a visit. Constantly telling them "DON'T do this, and make sure you do this" C'mon! Where is your common sense?!?
