Every few weeks I have to work on "go forward " with one of my horses!! He is so lazy and he has made it HIS life's ambition to make ME work as hard as possible!! He has this uncanny ability to draw me into "I can't possibly go forward without YOU using your leg ALL THE TIME!!!" and I get so drawn into it!!! He so has my number.....

I have been riding (getting lessons) on this woman's horse she's had 9 years, she got him when he was about 2. She wanted me to start on him because he is the most laid back and you can literally do whatever with him. Well last week he did not want to budge. She actually asked me if I wanted to try trotting and I looked at her like "he won't even walk! you think he's going to trot?!? LOL" We just laughed and said, yea I guess we'd be lucky if he did trot! So I think this week she's putting me on another horse. Kinda nervous because all the horses seem to have more "spunk" than he does.

I brought my new horse home to the local boarding barn a week ago and rode him this Sunday. What a sweetheart! Seven years on the track and three with the Amish. He moves right out and stops on a dime. Now he has the easy life giving a senior citizen pony rides. Has a huge floaty trot that is smooth as silk.

my Paso Fino is a firecracker... she needs no encouragement at all to go forward...if anyone makes kissing noises near her, she goes faster, I go riding with a friend who has a lazy Palomino... and he needs to continually "kiss" him along to keep up with me and Veronica... even tho' she has to take 4 steps to his 2... I keep telling my friend to quit making kissing noises, find some other way to get Pal moving... cuz Veronica hears it and off we go! with her, it's an effort to get her to walk. Paso's like to prance and rack ~ she's a racking fiend! she can take one hundred steps and only go about 5" forward. but to get her to "walk"... is all arm and leg work for me, unless I take her for at least a 4 mile run first... while she's not suitable at all for beginners, she is the best horse I've ever had...

my long wait is over! my last pullet (besides the bantam) has finally laid her first egg! it's a nice light bluish green. so, now I only have the 21 1/2 week old bantam to wait on... probably another 6 weeks or so...

Embrace your new spunky friend, it will make you a better rider at the end of  the day.

I hope its just the horse...lately I feel like I'm just not getting it. I mean, I could not get this horse to move for anything last week. So hopefully a different horse will help me along a little.

Don't be discouraged....keep going. The more you ride, the better your balance, the more comfortable you will feel. Honestly, most good trainers will start you off on a pokey horse, it teaches you how to use your leg. It also helps develop and strengthen your leg and they know that particular horse more than likely isn't going to run away with you. Are you learning in an arena, round pen, or on a longe?
