NY chicken lover!!!!

I end up being a bum all day, next 3 days will be busy. No damage on our property, but did notice that the neighbors barn/coop door snapped in half. It is an old shed, but there are hens still in there. Poor things are roosted in the rafters, some sleep on the floor. Snow is drifting in. Wind is at an angle, so hopefully they aren't getting a straight on breeze. If it was earlier and still light, I would have taken them all into my horse barn to get out of the wind and a safe place to sleep.

Those are just your runs ...right ? One looks like it is Bee inspired . I think I see a coop behind there .
We sure got snow today ...I wish I had covered my run before today ..I put it up in the snow & wind ..BRRR..
My one foot got wet & I thought it would never thaw
Chickens were thankful ...
They came out from under the coop & actually went out side today ..I didnt think they would ..



I only had this dark tarp...nothing clear ..so that is what I put up ..it only goes on the top half ..see my pumpkins ?

One of Pearl's eggs hatched last night!!!!!

I am so excited! This is my first hatch ever!!! I went in there this morning to check on her and I heard teeny tiny little "peep peep peep's" I just HAD to look. So I kind of just layed a dish over Pearl to keep her from pecking at me and tilted her slightly one and then another and there it was!!! This teeny tiny little dark chick! It still needs to dry out so I just took one quick peek at it and let her be and cleaned out some of the poop in her box. Also set up my heat lamp.

And of course I haven't gotten to TS yet to get Chick Starter and it's a blizzard out there today! I hope it stops so I can get out otherwise I'll have my husband stop after work for me. He took my truck to work today because the AWD in his isn't working. So the only way I'll go out with the kids is if it stops. But I dont see this chick eating anytime soon - don't they go like 24hrs or so before actually trying food?

This is what a Brabanter looks like...

V comb, Mohawk like feathers on head & a beard like Ameraucanas.
Dutch breed that was brought back from being extinct. Only this gold & also cream colors in the US.
Lays large white egg.

those are COOL Looking chickens. Wish I had room for more birds, I'd get some eggs to hatch. But no room at the Inn around here.

We had a turkey in the tree in out front yard that drove the dogs this morning. DH told me about it when I got home.

My brother died this morning. I got there and couldn't get my jacket off, ended up ripping the zipper apart. He waited for us to get there.
