Have it. Love it. FYI it is enough water for one day for 20 chickens. BUT you need power to your coop to use it...saves me sooo much time in the morning. I fill it when I gather eggs in the evening, once a day. That's it for water for them. I also have a 1 gallon that is enough for 2 days for 6 chickens.

I love this. One more item to show that I am not alone in spoiling my chickens. But chicken soup,,,that takes the cake.

It was leftover. And I added too much pastatina, so it was over run with gummy pasta. But the chickens LOVED it.
I made my own large flock blocks yesterday. 2 cups birdseed, 2 cups scratch, 1/2 cup flax seed, a bit of molasses, 3 TBLS corn syrup, about 3/4 cup of flour and 2 envelopes of gelatin + enough water to moisten everything. I let it all dry in a wax paper lined bowl and then put in the oven at 200' for 1 hour. Oh, and I added dried cranberries. It was easy, held together very well and the peeps are in seventh heaven.

I'm a bit worried about my rooster, Henry, today (the one in my avatar). When I went out to check on everyone, all the chickens were on the floor running around. He was on his roost, feathers fluffed. He let me pet him without running off. I decided to give them a bit of protein and scrambled up some eggs. All the chickens went bonkers but he wouldn't eat. He looks okay otherwise. Maybe he's just bummed by not getting outside. I've left the coop door open a few times and they want no part of the snow. I hope he's feeling okay. He's my bud.

Hi All,
I am looking for Turkey eggs to set in April. Does anybody out there have any fertile eggs to sell ? Breed doesn't matter, trying for a variety of breeds. I would rather get them from fellow NY'ers, rather than get them shipped from across the country.

Thanks Juanita

I have turkeys! :)

Morning all! Supposed to get another 4 to 6 inches today. We shall see. If we do then I will have to hear it again from all the cheeps about the evil white stuff. The girls refuse to come out of their coop as their run isnt shoveled. The silkies had snow blow into their run so they refuse to come out and I cant go in to clean it out as it is only 3 foot high and covered. First time thats happened. I will have to put plastic around it next year to keep it from happening. The terrorists come out but only on the shoveled areas inside their run. Bunch of sissys. I told them that the chickens down the road were out in their run and it wasnt even shoveled! They were out on the snow walking around. All I got in response was more bawking complaints and some demands for scratch.

I keep looking at my incubators and want to fire them up really badly! I will wait until february though. Not a good time to be hatching chicks and I am not set up for chicks yet anyways. I do have two broody silkie hens sitting on pine chips trying to hatch something out of nothing. Sigh. They are never broody when I want them to be.

Question...Is it safe to feed cooked potatos to chickens? I have read conflicting reports. I have some leftover baked potatoes that I would like to give them if its okay.

Be safe in this weather everyone.

My chickens are NOT happy. They don't even want to come out in the run - and I swept it and in one case even put down pine shavings over the frozen ground. Spoiled ladies!! They did enjoy the christmas leftovers (pie, pasta) I put out - yes, it's full of sugar and sodium and what not, but with 60 chickens they can't get too much bad stuff at a time. =)

Coming down pretty good here.. had to run out to TSC and buy some chick starter for the mini hatch I might have for NYD - 14 turken eggs still going strong!!

Henry is fine this morning. Still don't know what his issue was yesterday. Phew... I worried about him all night.
My flock refuses to come out either. When I open the door to the coop they just look to see what I've brought them this time. Spoiled pansies.
Sunnysideup, my one BA roo has started mating a couple days ago.
