Yes mine would be worse too if I had an incubator! The bantams are great, so pretty of course, but very nice dispositions too. Very friendly, even the roos. I was debating on whether to get a few LF lol. I know I will be hatching a bunch for myself ,whenever my hens go broody, so I am sure I will have too many! If the chickenstock happens upstate this summer I really want to go!

Let's swap a few.

You should go to the swap. Kristen is so awesome, I think we'll all have a great time. I would love to host one here in Central NY...I just don't have the space (yet) for a huge turnout. I'm hoping to go to the PA one if it happens again.

What swap and who's kristen? Just curious because I like the sounds of a swap.

Tab's chicken obsession :

What vet in the area tests chickens and is it expensive? DH and I are not into showing right now, but my girls might for 4H when they get bigger.

This is done through the state I believe and its free. You have to schedule and appointment and they do each and every bird. So be prepared to do some chicken chasing..

YOu have to call the State Dept. of Ag & Markets. They will havethe area person, Lorraine call & make an appt to come down.

She tests birds over 4 months of age that are breeders. She can tell you right then & there if they are good or not and give you a copy of the birds tested, etc.
Then about a month later, you will get a certificate from NPIP with your name & a number on it.

The test is good for 1 year. There are requirements to keep your NPIP current, and the biggie is that you can't get birds from any other person that isn't NPIP current. If you do, then, technically, your certification is invalid.

I think there has not been a positive pullorum test in NY in ages.

Getting all your birds locked up so its convenient to grab them as necessary so it goes along fairly smoothly is the hardest thing. I usually have someone else there, to hold the birds, and I do the catching, bringing to the table for the test, then I go get another bird, bring it to the person holding the birds, switch & take the bird just tested, and put it back in a pen that just has the tested birds, grab another bird, etc.

I do a lot of running! LOL

Hi folks from NY , I have a friend who I'd like to promote. She has a goat dairy and now has a new blog. Please send her a word of encouragement. It's Tricott dairy, if you google it you will find her blog. I'm real happy for her, she super nice.

Thanks
Rancher

I want goats...SO bad! I'll check out her blog. My DH told me yesterday of a lil' nigerian dwarf doe on Craigslist. I haven't gone on to check her out...I'm afraid I'll buy her on the spot!
