NY chicken lover!!!!

Heartbroken...
I went to feed the chickens this morning and discovered a predator got in last night. I'm guessing a weasel. Feathers all over and necks broken. Nothing eaten. Killed 7 hens. 5 black australorps and 2 red sex links. I know it could have been much worse. I still have 29 left, 2 being roosters. No others are injured.
Spending the day cleaning, setting traps and reinforcing.
My heart just sank when I saw that this morning.
I'm very sorry. Weasels are terrible killing machines. I lost 9 in one night, all in the coop to a weasel. Somewhere you have a tiny hole as small as 1 inch x 1 inch. Find it and fix it as the weasel will be back.
Weasels are darn near impossible to trap.

If the necks are just broken don't waste the birds. If you won't butcher them yourself give them to someone who will.

I am very sorry. Been there too many times. Well twice to a big attack like that. Once a weasel, once a mink. Consider yourself VEY VERY VERY lucky. Weasels usually kill EVERYTHING in the coop just for the sport of it.

I'm sorry for your lost, is there anything that will deter them like urine, snake skins, or something.

I'm so sorry. Either a weasel or a mink killed my entire duck flock this last fall. It was a nightmare. Good luck trapping and killing it.

If you can get close enough to pee on them you probably should just shoot them and be done with it.

That's terrible...I didn't realize that weasels could get into holes that small! It looks like I'm going to be checking over the coop this afternoon. Luckily the dogs seem to keep things away and bark in the middle of the night if there is something wandering around but I don't want to take any chances.

Miserable little beasts. I hope you can eliminate the culprit.
