Sorry for your loss! I'm lucky in that my mother in law's Chow/Newfie mix keeps pretty much everything out of our yard, and if something does come it, they usually end up getting eaten by him. I'm hoping he'll make a good guard dog for the coop once it's finished.

I am cracking up at the breed of dog. How the heck did a Chow and a Newf breed? Did someone give one of them a stool to stand on? But I am glad you have flock protection. I love Newfs, and would have one if a. They didn't cost over $500 for a good one and b. I could afford to feed it. (A friend has 2 and goes through almost 40 pounds of food A WEEK!!! That's gotta hurt the ol' wallet. Not to mention the back, carrying it into the house)

Well they do do that, at least when I am walking. Not so much when I am sitting, especially in this modern furniture that is a mile deep.

All my chicken's feet reach the floor too, except when they are roosting then they only reach the rafter they are perched on. (Wink)

Find a mix at a rescue or shelter! Jack is such a sweet dog. He's getting old but that doesn't stop him from getting playful with my Labrador every now and again. He's got the fur of a newfie, but he's sized slightly bigger than a chow, I think he has some border collie in there also because he's got a wonderful black base with white markings. He has a good disposition with our cats but will eviscerate anything else that comes into the yard that isn't fast enough to get away. I haven't seen anything in the yard since I moved in the house. He does eat quite a bit, but he isn't mine so I'm unsure exactly how much.

Sorry for your losses. And the job? That stinks....Don't quit....give it 2 weeks and see how you feel at the end of that time. Really, 2 weeks can change your outlook a lot. (and get your a paycheck. LOL)

I think she needs to wear a pot on her head for awhile and only hold Delaware chicks from now on.
