NY chicken lover!!!!

The roo I have is very nice. Not overly friendly but not aggressive either. Right now the four older BM's are in with 11 younger chicks. About 4 weeks or so younger and they seem to be fine together.

Now folks FYI, today I opened the run door to toss some bread in and an EE, Lav orp, and CR hen all bolted past me into the run. Not wanting to chase them around to get them out I just left them in with the Dels. About 7 hens and two roosters. I just waited til night time to gather them and put them back in the flock they were with. No fighting or being beat up by the Dels. at all.

I fell victim to chicken math today. My friend who works at Country Max called to say the chicks were on the way. I got there shortly and she and I went to town. 12 chicks, a mix of barred rocks and easter eggers. Pics tomorrow.

Well came home from hospital today. My mom went back home so I hitched a ride with her to get my other car to go back up this Friday with son.

Daughter is doing great. They say she has the record for farthest distance walked on second day of surgery. Day three after heart surgery and she only has one iv line and drainage tubes in now. We are hopeing she sets the record for fastest time getting out of the hospital.

Any ways my chicks are getting they're color they look so weird. Wish I could tell what type of "red pullets" they are going to be. Some getting a dark brown/red others little lighter and one just seems like it maybe lighter brown. kind of hard to tell since still kinda spotty feathers. just hand fed them some and little buggers pecking and grabing skin as they try to eat. The bigger silkies and leghorn scrape/peck but don't really grab skin like the little reds. No cams in the house atm so no pics.

Stopped by TS today with son for more bedding and almost bought 6 chicks really wanted 3 of the assorted bantams. three had diff coloring than the others but I didn't want the wrath of the wife yet and I knew my son would say something this weeknd when we go back to hospital.

well later all

I heard that ...dont know the age of the birds ..just know they were huge & looked fully capable of snatching a chicken if they wished .
Saw them today to far away to tell
The two eagles I saw first looked mature ..I dont remember any white at all .
I guess I should take a walk down The road to see if I can find the nest ..

Glad to hear your little girl is doing so well.
Yes they look pretty scraggly when their feathers are growing out at different stages .
Kind of like teenagers with growth spurts

Darker Reds might be Rode Island reds , Lighter reds probably Golden comets

It's officially the One Bad Day for six of the eight roosters tomorrow, as our next door neighbor says the crowing is getting annoying (getting? How about IS?), and they're now beating the snot out of the poor girls as their hormones are firing up. The Captain and the Easter Egger stay, and of course my Japanese Bantam doesn't count - he's a squeaky toy. All the others will soon end up as honored dinner guests.

My husband is coming home from work early to help me send them to Freezer Camp, which is good, as I've been trying to get him to help me for a while now. I've wanted them done in for ages, and can handle doing several with no issues, but I could use some help for the grunt work. He even made me a nice, sturdy cone out of roof flashing and a BYC pattern (OK - I nagged him into it), although I think he wants to use the hatchet, as the cone method weirds him out a bit. Either way, they'll be bagged and tagged by tomorrow night. It's going to take a while, but it'll be worth it. Winners, winners, chicken dinners!

Continued prayers for your daughter - it's wonderful that she's doing so well!

I was at the Countrymax in Cicero yesterday checking everything out and grabbing some stuff when they got their delivery of chicks. So funny, I was all the way at the back and could hear them chirping as soon as they brought them in the front door lol.

Didn't dare look but they go up for sale today. I believe they said they got 6 dozen. They said they were hatchery's choice when I asked what breeds. Just an FYI for any of you who are short on chickens. :D
Like I said, I had to stay away - can't succumb to chicken math!
