NY chicken lover!!!!

We have a game cam just to see what wildlife is kicking around on our property. It gives us a lot of enjoyment (when it works properly). Our property is heavily posted with NO TRESPASSING / NO HUNTING signs. Just shy of 5 acres, and yet we caught a bow hunter on the game cam twice this past fall. Infuriating. Kids and pets playing all the time. Unfortunately, his face was not caught on either image. Grrrrr. Put your cam somewhere discreet, or you may find the thief has stolen it as well. It will probably give an audible flash if he's coming at night which will give it away.
One of my fears was the cam being stolen so we hid it pretty high up in a tree and it's camo so it can't be seen easily.
Make sure you buy one that is infrared so there will be no flash.

Hunters like that piss me off. I hunt deer shotgun/riffle no bow. Its hard to find places to hunt cause of hunters like that they go where they aint suppose to go with out permission or they trash the place. We lost one hunting spot this past year due to the guys neighbors complaining about us going on they're area. When in fact they was on the guys land cause I was the one who found them as I was pushing around exploreing the back side of his land. I'm down to 2 privet land spots to hunt and one of them always has people there. Wish I was from up here but I grew up in Cincinnati Oh. Wife and her family are from around here but don't know of many places to hunt. Oh well enough complaining. Hope you can get pics of them next year or set a cam up to watch the road get the license plate and see them leave car with bow going into your land.

Well, like any other disrespectful sort, hunters like that give a bad name to the guys / girls who respect rules. I even mention on our posted signs that there are kids and pets at play. But anyway..... They are not gaining access by road, jlaw. Unfortunately, they are coming on from other sects of land that don't belong to us. Some they have permission for and others they do not. Several years ago, someone shot a deer ON our posted property and gutted it right there / left the mess right over our spring for drinking water.

We had to dispose of it, because our dogs were going nuts.

a big flock of Sumatra's wiped out my tick haven. We were LOADED with tics and ground hornets. Tics are virtuallygone and I watch the Sumatra's sit over a ground hornet nest and eat all day long until none are left.

Amazing that they don't get stung -- I realize their beaks are safe, but you'd figure the soft tissue inside their mouths. Wow...just learned something else cool about chickens today!

We do have an infrared unit -- but I assumed there was some sort of light emitted. The deer we catch are always staring at the camera with that classic "deer in the headlights look", so I assumed there was a flash....

I'm not at all tech-savvy, though, so I'm probably wrong!

Let us know how you make out. Maybe you'll crack the case!

So sorry - that's really too bad.  It's a lot of anticipation and then to be disappointed... :(    Will you try again now?

I wasn't going to do another hatch but now I may try again. I just don't want to buy eggs this time just to get disappointed again. I will just try wwith some if mine even tho they will be mixes.

I would love some Sumatra. I would get some eggs from you but I don't have much luck with hatching and none of my hens have any interest in going broody :/ You are 3 hours away. It could be worth the drive for some chicks ;)

Just got back from Target, this wind is crazy! I hate driving in it too, when it's this windy out and I have to go out I always feel like there's something wrong with my car.

Good news is I found lavender silkies and they are getting shipped tomorrow! They should arrive Thursday. I'm sooooo excited!
Still waiting for my ducklings. I made a call to the feed store this morning and I guess she's waiting to fill her minimum order and has people that are supposed to be getting back to her with they want but aren't. So my ducklings that I wanted the 2nd week of April will be here hopefully next week or the week after. Owell, I'm not really in a rush for those anyway.

Hi, thank you for the welcomes. I currently have 15, 7 week old chicks: 5 Buff Brahmas, 5 Jersey Giants, and 5 Red Sex Links. They just moved into their newly rennovated coop last week and I'm in the process of making a fully fenced run for them. Veggie, I'm located in Greenwich.
