NY chicken lover!!!!

Welcome!!!
I keep forgetting you haven't started your flock yet. Sorry if you already mentioned but what are you planning on getting for breeds?

For those who have seen my babble several times, just skip over this, but for Lynzi, I am planning on getting a few Delaware pullets and likely a Columbian Rock as well from Rancher.....also a couple of Coronation Sussex and Brabanters (because they are just so COOL!!) from Marquisella. Both Rancher and Marquisella have been kind enough to grow the chicks out for me, because I was not able to house them here at that stage. We are on a tight squeeze to get the coop built and the pen up. This horrible weather has really been slowing us down.

Ah no road to your woods I would go out once a day just yelling like a banshee till no one bothered to come around any more during hunting season lol. A couple fog horns or a loud speaker should do also.

Oh, believe me jlaw, I am a crazy lady who knows how to make noise.

Good luck getting your coop going. I'm doing the same and it's coming along great...just too slow for my liking!

If I hadn't placed an order with my local feed store already I would take some. Even though I'm not in a rush to get them, I'm a very impatient person. LOL When I want something I want it right then and there.
That's sort of why we wound up with too many. My husband decided he wanted ducklings. TSC only sells them in 6-packs. So now I have 6 ducklings in my brooder box. We only want 2 or maybe up to 4 adult ducks. We just got them yesterday, so they are still in the first week of life, cute-fluffy phase. I posted my surplus here on the New York thread instead of the "free rehoming" section since this is obviously local. Ideally, there would be a kid who would like to raise some for 4-H.

welcome.

Well I stopped by TS, home depot, walmart, a few other stores and a local feed store no luck on pallets going to try my work see if they sell them if not looks like I will be attacking home depot for boards to build my coop.\

Try the "free" section of craigslist. I was just on a search for clean fill and there were a ton of ads for free pallets.

Well that is awfully nice of them! I can't wait to see pictures of your flock! I'm getting a Silkie from Marquisella on Thursday. Glad to find an older hen rather than being stuck with all chicks again. Waiting for them to start laying can feel like an eternity!

good. Most people don't take that precaution.

the 3 weasels I shot were out in daylight, ran right near me. They don't care one bit about peoples presence. I work from home and am in and out of my workshop which is near 2 of my 9 coops all day long. All 3 I shot were within feet of my workshop and the coops.

I have tried every trap imaginable for weasels. They have NOT worked. Weasels want living food. You MIGHT get lucky once in a while but a good hunting cat or small rat dog like a terrior and a weapon, even a pellet gun like I used yesterday are the only ways to ensure a weasel will be killed.

I'm even with my cat on the weasel killing. It is his turn to start killing them again.

My neighbors cat came back last year with a damaged tail. Vet said it was a trap. It now has half a tail and I hope someone is trapping in the area. I don't know what the laws are concerning trapping here. I did see a fox a couple Sundays ago but that was down the road. I came immediately back home as I had let the birds out. I've not seen it since.

Was just on CL, if anyone is looking for chicks someone in Oswego has chicks, ducklings, a "hutch" and supplies all from TS that they are selling for $125. Guess they weren't ready to start with Chickens.

there are seasons on trapping with kill traps. The you tube traps are kill traps. Season is over as far as I know. I use live traps, then kill. As I catch cats and chickens besides predators. Predators die. As releasing predators without a special permit is against the law and has a hefty fine. I of course mean 4 legged predators. I don't have a fox trap and am told by the pro's that foxes rarely walk into a box trap. I won't use a leg hold or kill trap. So when I have a fox killing chickens I kill the fox. THAT is the only way to stop a fox from killing chickens. Kill the fox

I deliver the newspaper in Bridgeport and I saw a young fox this morning. Thankfully the ones over here in Manlius seem to stay near the Erie Canal areas.
