NY chicken lover!!!!

Nature Berry Farms Near Rochester NY in Macedon. Check local farms I did some research and there are a few in NY that are organic use GMO items. I understand cross contamination but if we practice this we can soon reclaim things back!!
I am not sure what you are advocating. Feeding foods that contain GMOs and calling ourselves organic is not, according to what i believe, organic. And yes, their are people who feed gmos and call themselves organic. To me, this is deception to raise prices or sell to nonsuspecting customers or deception in some form. I feel strongly about this practice and because some do practice this deception, advise people to go with third party certification which is costly and raises the prices of true non gmo users. I apoligize in advance if my opinion is offensive. But deception in any form is offensive to me. If one chooses to feed regular feed(non "organic" for whatever reason[price, doesn't believe in organics]) it is absolutely ok, just please do not pass it off as organic, because it is not. Just be honest. There is way to much deception in this world.

Again, this is just my opinion and I feel strongly on this matter.

Thanks to every one who replied. I got talked into playing video games with the kids Had to show them a 40 year old man still got it.

Guess I will start doing some more research on them. I haven't had to buy bullets in a while but a friend at work told me he was having a real hard time finding bullets.for his .22 and 30-30. At least I can get pellets on line still.(for now)

i asked my mom about urgent care hours because of my sinus. I was told I need to get the chickens out of my house because they cause dust that can damage my lungs. She said to google it. I only keep newborns in the house for a week or 2 then they get moved to the barn. If its not the chickens she tells me my house has mold in the drop ceiling or my carpets are awful. It bugs me that most things I try to talk to her about come to a bash the things I care about fest. She is always so critical of me and the sad part is is that I don't think she realizes it. She has had it rough. I love her so I shrug it off and ignore it, but it hurts.
Oh Tab.

Chicks do create a lot of dander and I think every house has some mold somewhere( except brand new ones that have off gassing from new products). The real question is what is causing you pain(besides mom

). If you feel sick, you should go to urgent care. If you can wait call the doctor first thing tomorrow(well NOT first thing for you because no one will be at the drs office at 2AM), but do see a doctor and take care of yourself. Again

opinions? Thoughts? I figured I'd start another thread rather than hijack this one.

I did not mean to come off as cross. #3 I'd say is a roo. If it is a barred chick go by the spot on the head. A more spread out spot usually indicates a roo. As for the mystery chick. I'd say it's female and an EE, but that is just a guess.

I wish you well,

Rancher

If you should find you have a BR roo, I'd be willing to trade for a rooster of another breed. Marans or Del.

Today was a marathon work day on the coop, despite the @#$%*! winter-like weather. Hubby and I got up more than 3/4 of the siding. Hooray! I think I will be hammering nails in my dreams tonight.

Tomorrow, after we finish the siding and if it's warm enough, I'll start staining; hubby plans to shingle the storage roof. I'm glad, because I prefer to stay grounded, though I did help with the coop roof. We need to get the windows put in, too.

More discussion on the "to ceiling or not to ceiling" the coop conundrum today. Another idea has us considering a partial ceiling, but leaving some space open to the rafters. Hmmm.... still a little time to ponder and brainstorm.

Here's how we left the project tonight......

By the way -- on the subject of ventilation -- we will have two large windows (you can see the south-facing one)...also, we have a roof vent cut into the coop roof under the shingle line, as well as vented soffit all along the coop's lower roof line.

Well I say you put a Bell Tower on top cuz it looks more like a country church than a chicken coop. You might like to call your place Holy Chicken Farm.

I'll have to put a radio out in the back on a preacher station so these Dels will be prepared.

At least they won't be heathens like my first batch from the hatchery.

If chickens caused lung damage, I think we would all have been sick long ago. Sinus infection tends to have lots of pressure in the sinus area across the cheek bones, nasal stuffiness and some weird color snot. True, the dust/dander may have triggered sinus infection. Hubby often gets sinus infections if the air is too dry, but had them constantly when he lived at home because of the excessive dirt/dust/dander. They had large dirty dogs that laid on all the furniture and bedding was hardly washed. And all old houses are prone to have other hidden issues. But you wouldn't be the only one sick either from either situation.
Next time your mom decides the house isn't clean to her standards, hand her a broom. She can either clean or fly away on it.

Laffin.... I never thought of handing mine a broom to fly away on, but that is a very good idea. (I think Tab and I have the same mother....the one that never heard "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" in her life)

I can say, from personal experience, that mold can and will cause all kinds of problems in the respiratory tract. I used to have 3 - 5 sinus infections a year and carried 2 inhalers at all times for asthma. I moved to a house that didn't have forced air heat (we have radiators) and I stay out of the basement and (knock on wood) I have had NO sinus infections and don't even have a script for my inhalers any more. And Tab, it wasn't my housekeeping (which left a LOT to be desired) it was the basement and the furnace blowing all those icky basement things into my living area. So blow off what your mother is saying, get something for your sinus infections (cuz it does sound like it is one) and don't call your mom, let her call you if she wants contact. (Oh, caller ID is a wonderful thing, so you only answer her calls when you are up to it)

Jen you really made me smile, which helps. Got a hold of my doc and she recommended sudafed said it was ok to take 1 every 4-6 hours even though I'm pregnant. If I don't experience some relief in 1-2 days to call her back. She said there is a bug going around that has been lasting a couple weeks and I'm going into week 2.
