NY chicken lover!!!!

I made a big feeder out of a 5gl pail and an old rubber maid drawer!

First one to figure out the ramp, at least half way.

Me thinks this Cochin is a Roo.

also this BR, and my other two BRs :-/

And I love the colors on this EE.

and another pretty colored EE with my BR's behind.

broke into her grain pail...what does that mean ? Did she overeat ?

Horses love, love, LOVE their grain, but don't know when to stop eating if they manage to get out of their stalls at night and get into the receptacle the grain / sweet feed is kept in. Then they have a strong chance of developing potentially dangerous colic, as Pharmchick's horse did (sorry about that). We have a great, old metal barrel with a hinged lock on it. It's a pain, but really worth it. When my horse is loose in the barn, he almost always gives the barrel a whack or two hoping to get lucky. Good thing that Breela's MIL's horse managed to pilfer some hay, too. That will help create some bulk to move the feed along without so much gas and bloat. I'm glad she seems OK, despite being a brat of a horse.

Well, tomorrow is a VERY exciting day...after a long winter and spring of planning, learning and waiting, our new girls from Rancher are coming home!

I'm a little anxious about how they'll do (and how I'll do, too!), but can't wait.
The pen has a way to go, but the coop is ready and waiting.

Wish me luck! Thanks!

Congrats on the new babies ! Im sure you will do just fine . how old are they now ?
You sound like you already have a lot of Horse Sense ..

If you are using the run just for the daytime when you are around ...It doesnt have to be perfect ...right away ...they will stay in a fenced in area ...even if it is not covered ..
Or throw a tarp over the top for shade ..
get the sides up ...so they can get out ...then cover it in a day or two ..They will be inside the coop at night right ? That is the most dangerous time generally

Thanks, jlaw; but who said it was (techinically) finished? haha! The chickies' side is complete, but "my side", the attached storage unit, needs a little more work. This won't affect the girls, though! Priorities, priorities! Chickens come 1st.

Thanks, Gramma. They are youngsters, I'd say around 4 or 5 weeks old. The run is not finished, but I'll be keeping them inside the coop for the next 2 or 3 days anyway to get them acclimated. So we should get things finished to where they can go out, as you mentioned above. Just my thinking, too. Thanks. And yes, definitely in the coop by beddy-bye time!

my chickens all survived their first night outside!

yay!!

That's great Breella. You and I are right along the same time frame, almost. Getting most of my new flock today!
