NY chicken lover!!!!

featherz sorry about your loss on the two nn's. you need magic hens like rancher has. They are so good and never squish the chicks. I mean they dont even touch the eggs. And the best thing is you can gell how many eggs they have under them just check this picture out.

I edited his post the bold is edited. I did so because even i on compter at work can see those 3 hens are on 2 eggs just look under the net box. Magic hens i swear they hatch them by will power alone.

Hahahaha good catch! That's funny!

Alright I think you all jinxed me with the broody talk. Stella has been in the nest box since noon today:

Don't think she's coming out anytime soon. Figures I go out and buy an incubator and then she goes broody! Owell. Maybe if I get anymore Silkie eggs I'll stick those under her since I won't be adding anymore to the bator. The eggs she's sitting on right now cannot be fertile. They haven't been near that roo in weeks!

Serves you right for having Silkies.

If you're interested in REAL chickens come and see me and I'll give you some BR and Del eggs. You should cross a Silky with one of these CR's. Course your roo would need a latter. The other way around and your silky hen would look like a dead dust bunny.

I actually like those, I was going to ask you what that Roo was in your avatar pic, love the coloring on him. I just have no more room for any bigger hens. That coop is full. :-(

Rancher - With all your broodies do you still get eggs? LOL

Milk crates how do you get them or where?

I got more stuff sprouting, asparagus, potatoes, cantaloupe, and a few more unknowns. Regardless I planted enough stuff and a lot is coming I should be fine this year, though next time I will get the permanent marker myself and not rely on my son LOL. My herbs are periennials are wonderful, I love going to the garden and picking fresh herbs to make dinner. I need to get more shade plants and ground cover.

I forgot where I read it but it said to plant MINT around your coop to keep rats away. Most mints are perennials and invasive, but I wonder how they smell when hit with the lawnmower.

That was my Nick. Sadly he got old and is gone. But I do have George. They're Delawares.

Columbian Rocks and Delaware have similar patterns, but not quite the same. CR's are more like a Sussex. Dels have a barred feather pattern. I don't believe my CR's have the best patterns but they are stockier and bigger than my Dels. They also take longer to mature. Good for eating I'm sure.

Dels are much more friendly. I've chicks that I can pick up already. They're a calmer breed.

That sounds like a good idea, I got a lot of wild garlic and chives growing it might be a nice smell!!! Um I haven't had rats yet but I will do the mint to be on the safe side, will the chickens eat it all? Perennials is what I like to hear!

Your Del's are gorgeous!

I have caught a mouse or two but not seen rats. The same hold true for mice though.

Closing up tonight, what do I see in the EE coop but a hen in the nest box. Fought me as I pulled her out rear end first. I can't stand it.

Just watched "Hitchcock" . Good movie. Not great but good. Next up Life of Pi. I love pie don't you?

Enjoy Rancher

Well tonight I finally did some homework hee hee, guess I'll do some more.

So it's a down pour now hopefully my silkie's shut up and went to bed LOL I'm sorry it's raining go back in your coop then silly bird! Meanwhile the others were fine and making funny noises. I do need one more bird in the silkie coop though two just doesn't seem right but the one silkie can be mean and doesn't take to just any bird so it's going to be a long week trying to mix and match. She was no joke full on attacked one of my bigger babies, she especially don't like babies LOL Most aggressive silkie I've seen, she only like my one set of babies otherwise don't bother her! Can't split up the other babies they will be calling for each other all night.

My newest dog is doing great pooped and pee'd outside yayy! All my animals are like what the hell is it? she's 2lb yorkie we got from cousin who didn't want her anymore. My three cats and two other dogs are like I can't play with this.

My dogs and I (minus the yorkie) had a good run today, and as usual we marked as much as possible.

Well everyone have a great evening!
