NY chicken lover!!!!

Its like broody insanity here, lol I have four ducks and a bunch of hens all sitting on eggs. I thought a Possum was stealing the eggs and eating them, but it was one of the other broody ducks doing it. :(

Anyone coming to the auction this Sat in Canandaigua?

I'm on the hunt for a Pastel call hen (Or any call hen, my drake is lonely) and a Cream Legbar Rooster...

I have Cayuga ducklings and Silkies available for sale too.

Well these three are sharing the load. I don't know how many are under them yet but will candle them and see later this week. I also have a Del on eggs but not sure how many she's got and I saw my SLW in the nest box last night too.

Milk crates are great for protecting the rhubarb plants.

Rancher - With all your broodies do you still get eggs? LOL

Milk crates how do you get them or where?

I got more stuff sprouting, asparagus, potatoes, cantaloupe, and a few more unknowns. Regardless I planted enough stuff and a lot is coming I should be fine this year, though next time I will get the permanent marker myself and not rely on my son LOL. My herbs are periennials are wonderful, I love going to the garden and picking fresh herbs to make dinner. I need to get more shade plants and ground cover.

Ugh! Now I know why leghorns should not go broody. My still broody leghorn had two squashed and dead chicks under her this afternoon. Naked necks! Squashed! =( She gets no more eggs - I took them away and gave them to another broody. Grr.

I just wish I HAD a broody! My birds are all messed up this year. My brahma went broody in the middle of winter, my orp went broody for just a week at the tail end of winter, my reliable silkie was killed, and no one else seems to want anything to do with chicks, ugh.

Out of curiosity, do you have any extra naked neck chicks?

I have NINE broodies, although I am not counting the leghorn. She gets nothing! I have a few more eggs under hens, but the two NN that hatched are both squished. =( The one that lived is a standard neck. I have a pile of county boy eggs hatching on sunday that I had hopes of putting under broodies but we shall see.

Always willing to throw some eggs in the incubator for ya if you can take whatever hatches, I can't guarantee NN but my back coop is only NN and leghorns so keeping only the brown eggs should result in a few NN. :)

One of the dead NN's had gorgeous green legs /sniff.

Yes I'm still getting plenty of eggs. Of the hens with chicks only the three BM's and the Sussex have not gone back to laying. All the EE's and the BR hen have laid today so that makes 7. The Dels of course always do well. The orps haven't been let out of the run in a while since the Blk roos are mean to the young ones.

There are still 4 BR and 1 Slw that haven't gone broody.

I have someone coming tomorrow for chicks.

Now this might interest Marq. One of the EE's I'm keeping has the markings of the Birchen on it's chest. I'm sure it's an EE but not sure from which hen and I'm sure my BM roo is the father. So there is hope I think of improving my line. I'm hanging on to the pullets I hatch. Strangely enough none of the newer roos have feathered feet.

I'm not sure where I got the milk crates but some I think came from the side of the road. Others from milk being sent home from the school.

Our TV went so I might be on here more than usual. We're one of those poor people with only one TV.

The weather will be crappy for the next day so I might have to resort to reading. Oh the inhumanity.

Alright I think you all jinxed me with the broody talk. Stella has been in the nest box since noon today:

400

Don't think she's coming out anytime soon. Figures I go out and buy an incubator and then she goes broody! Owell. Maybe if I get anymore Silkie eggs I'll stick those under her since I won't be adding anymore to the bator. The eggs she's sitting on right now cannot be fertile. They haven't been near that roo in weeks!

featherz sorry about your loss on the two nn's. you need magic hens like rancher has. They are so good and never squish the chicks. I mean they dont even touch the eggs. And the best thing is you can gell how many eggs they have under them just check this picture out.

I edited his post the bold is edited. I did so because even i on compter at work can see those 3 hens are on 2 eggs just look under the net box. Magic hens i swear they hatch them by will power alone.
