NY chicken lover!!!!

Enjoy Rancher

Well tonight I finally did some homework hee hee, guess I'll do some more.

So it's a down pour now hopefully my silkie's shut up and went to bed LOL I'm sorry it's raining go back in your coop then silly bird! Meanwhile the others were fine and making funny noises. I do need one more bird in the silkie coop though two just doesn't seem right but the one silkie can be mean and doesn't take to just any bird so it's going to be a long week trying to mix and match. She was no joke full on attacked one of my bigger babies, she especially don't like babies LOL Most aggressive silkie I've seen, she only like my one set of babies otherwise don't bother her! Can't split up the other babies they will be calling for each other all night.

My newest dog is doing great pooped and pee'd outside yayy! All my animals are like what the hell is it? she's 2lb yorkie we got from cousin who didn't want her anymore. My three cats and two other dogs are like I can't play with this.

My dogs and I (minus the yorkie) had a good run today, and as usual we marked as much as possible.

Well everyone have a great evening!

Silkies are evil birds.

How many eggs do your dogs lay?

I havent seen the chickens eat my mint or spearmint ..I think the smell bothers them ..
Same with Basil ? they stay away from my tenants garden that has the herbs

Mine never bother the mints or lemon balm. I'll be moving them to around the coop and runs. Then I can plant something else in their place.

Horse Keeper congrats on your retirement. Hope it's good.

I didn't like Life of Pi, so i didn't finish watching it.

The EE is back in the nest box this am. I can't stand it, I just can't stand it. She's in one of the bucket boxes and it's not easy to get her out. Perhaps if I pull her out and stick her out in this rain she'll changer her mind. These chickens hate me I swear. I hear them talking behind my back. Lets go broody and drive the old man crazy. Like it isn't to late for that! I think they've been silkynized.

I can't follow all these postings. I just can't keep up. Love ya all anyhow hope all are well.
Chicken on,

Rancher.

All rainy here today. My son was supposed to have field day at school today, doubt that's happening.
We had a raccoon go thru our garbage the other night, although I'm not sure it was a raccoon. Could have been a opossum. The size of the mess wasn't nearly as big as others I've had to clean up last summer. Small chewed holes in the bags instead of the hole back being ripped apart and thrown all over the lawn. Glad my duck house was finished and my ducklings were safe and secure in their coop!

I was thinking of trying to candle my eggs today that I've got in the incubator. How soon can you begin to candle after setting them? Today would be day 4.

One of my young silkie girls is also going broody. She is not sitting yet but when I open the door to get eggs, she spreads her wings and puffs up and screams.
Well this would explain why Stella, my lav orp, was puffing up every time she went over to the other coop. I didn't think they showed signs before going broody. That was her all day Monday, especially when I went up to the silkie to check on how the chicks were doing with the adults. My silkie roo kept strutting his feet in front of all the girls when they came over to see what I was looking at in there and Stella puffed up at him like a big turkey! LOL

Morning all! Another dreary and humid day. I am not looking forward to the heat and humidity that is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Makes work more difficult.

I have one broody in the terrorist coop and boy is she cranky! I open the door to get eggs and she is all puffed up and growing and screaming at me. Fortunately she hasnt gone for me and lets me take the eggs but she acts like she is going to rip me apart. I usually just give her some nice pets and tell her what a good girl she is. One of my young silkie girls is also going broody. She is not sitting yet but when I open the door to get eggs, she spreads her wings and puffs up and screams. I am hoping she starts sitting so she can hatch some eggs from that pen. Time will tell I guess.

I have the tots back in downstairs. I will try introducing them again to the divas coop this weekend at night. They are getting big and need to be out in the coop. My problem hen is Betty. She is lowest in rank in that coop and is just horrible to the tots. Wont let them eat and goes after them constantly. If I yank her out for a couple days, do you think the transition would go better? The other girls didnt really bother with them except for a peck if they tried to push into the food action. I dont dare put the tots in with the terrorists as several of those hens have shown very aggressive moves towards the tots when they were out in the puppy pen. I suspect they would kill them.

Moved my silkie tots to another cage as the rir tots just walk on them when they are together. Nothing intentional as they were all raised together but now they are so big it just happens. The silkies are supposed to go to a new home on friday. I have discovered that Rosey the rir tot is really Uncle Bill. Comb is turning red red and he is going to be a very big boy. I am still thinking 2 pullets and 2 roos, based on the combs.

Off to the pharm today. Might be a two fan day. There is never any air in our little hole in the store. Have a good day all.

Good morning all it's a rainy mess on the west side. The silkies refuse to leave the coop which is fine. The babies need to go outside I'm going to try and introduce them to the other group since I had to separate them. I don't get my other coop till august so it will just have to work! So pharm I understand.

I finally found the roof I wanted for my main coop yayy! Can't wait to put that on this weekend. As it's too rainy right now. Think I will make a trip to the feed store and get set up to start building my shed.

I normally have sun & mon off but I took off tues and weds as well so I had lots of time to watch it rain LOL

Usually starting at day 10 - 14 you will know for sure. It won't you can certainly candle at day 4 but you may not see much. I'm still learning myself but I do know that it's around day 10-14 that you get the most accurate results. Good luck and post pics as you go!

this should help it explains everything and has pictures.

Rain cleared up gonna get started on my new roof super excited the exact color I wanted didn't come in but I settle for something close enough yayy!

I did it...I went and picked up 6 eggs for the broody silkie...3 Welsummer and 3 Olive Egger....stupid morehensdisease.

In other news if anybody wants a mutt roo I have about 4 that are 7 weeks old that I need to get rid of

I was thinking about growing them out...they are Buff Orpington, production red mixes and a Buff Orpington, Americauna mix. I would just need to find a mobile processor in the Albany area...There is no way I could do it myself.

Hope the rain isn't treating you guys too badly...it's getting pretty muddy around my place, the dogs are brining in so much mud. The coops seem to be staying nice and dry at least, even with the windows open.

Yucky Weather! I cant garden in the mud!
You could if you had raised beds. Expect to plant some flower seeds in the garden today to attract bees. I just toss a mix and whatever grows , grows. Just a 2 X 4 area for now. Last year had some Nicotiania and Bachelor buttons.

Lynzi I candled at day 4 or 5 (because I couldn't wait longer) and could see a difference, I think some even had some veins. Since your eggs are lighter in colour you should be able to see more as well.
