The newest Mille Fleur breeding rooster Max. He was shipped in yesterday from South Dakota to make up for some of the birds going to the sale this weekend. What do you all think?

Wow, what a beautiful rooster.

Being interested in photography, I have been meaning to ask you, County Boy....what kind of camera / lens do you use? Your pics are super.

Welcome Barn Swallow & ChickenFlavoredCook-E - theres a nice friendly group here

Well we had excitement here today .. A FOX ATTACK ! this afternoon !
I didnt do my usual perimeter walk today ...I heard the warning clucks ..around 3:00 & came flying out of the house running at my top speed towards the sounds of a distressed hen . It had one behind our wood burn pile ..Once I spotted the two of them fighting ..
I let out 3 piercing Screams AHHHHH..it dropped it & the hen came toward me ..( my throat is still sore from yelling at it ..
I was the only one home
My sons: Like did you get the gun ? Im like : No my first thought was to get to that hen & rescue it ..I didnt even think of the gun ..
Im glad I did coz I saved her life ..she is one of the babies from last year that we raised .

I at first I thought we lost 3 hens ( they disperse when there is a attack of course ) out of 8 ..Then one came back just fine , then another came back with some feather damage , ( she huddled in between the mailbox & light pole hiding ) She let me pick her up & I cuddled & held her about a hour ) walking around outside )She got small first aid . then another showed up almost no tail & big hunks of feathers out of her back & under her tail . She was bleeding some so she got taken in the house for medical care too .
So all are accounted for ..The babies were in the back of their cage on the deck making no noise at all till I spoke to them .
I dont know if the hens clucking scared them or me screeching !
so we had turmoil at our house today .. they are all settled in & safely asleep now.. all 22..

Gramma,

that is not the excitement one wants in their afternoon. So sorry that a few of your hens got roughed up and sure hope the one that is most injured make a good recovery. Good job as the flock protector, Gramma!

Here's a couple of the teen chickens from CB's eggs - these aren't great pics, I usually am walking around with only my phone and can't be bothered to get a 'real' camera.. :)

Nugget the roo chillin with his peeps':

The Gang (minus one). They don't seem to like the grass as much as hanging out around the coop. :)

Featherz - cute pics!!! Those birds are going to be beautiful as adults! And every picture I've seen of yours is always a good picture! I'm the same way - always walking around with my phone just to be able to get quick shots of the chickens ;-)

Stony - that's a lot of chicks with that mama hen! Hope she doesn't lose track of them! Cute pic.

Well we did go and had a decent time, but Lord have mercy some of those people looked like they were having a bad time. Anyhow we decided Columbus bakery had the best meat ball and dough. Bought a dish of fruit from Edible Arrangements. No big deal. The Bang bang shrimp was good too.

Then it rained and my sister who can't walk a lot was tired. I knew she would be and she did last longer than I anticipated. It was a nice time.
