NY chicken lover!!!!

This one just started to show the curl in it's feathers about a week ago. It is 3 weeks old.

Ah, mine are just one week old so no frizzle yet. I'll let you know. :) :)

On another positive note, passed my first two classes today (tested out)! Just one week into my school term and 6 units done. :) I love WGU. =)

Now I'm taking a nursing geriatrics course (which I plan to test out of next week) and then on to finish up statistics. fun fun.

With all due respect I have no idea where kids get they need a boyfriend or girlfriend at such an age. Also IMO it's the fathers who should be dealing with this boy not the mothers. If there is a father in the picture.

As the father of three girls I had to deal with a neighborhood boy. I took him aside and explained to him that I was sure he's a nice kid but my daughter was too young to have a boyfriend. He understood and that was that.

I find it funny that as parents we want to teach our kids not to cave to peer pressure but as adults we do exactly that in regards to dress, actions and relationships for our kids. I personally don't care what the rest of society's standard is with regards to kids and teenagers and I will not be persuaded otherwise. The proof is in the pudding as they say.
No, when I say "boyfriend/girlfriend, they are (were) in no way exclusive. 12 is definitely too young. This was more or less acknowledging they had crushes. The other mom and I actually had a conversation about what we felt was appropriate and what wasn't. Hand holding and a kiss on the cheek was allowed and that's where we drew the line. I allowed her because I know the family fairly well. Decent family and very strict. She broke up because she thought he was clingy. Lesson learned on her part... go with your gut!
No kidding ...I hope the parents are better than the kid ..Maybe controlling was what he was ..

How is the radio working for you ?
Ive just been out with the flock when they are out ..
I am so glad I stayed home ..I have been expecting it... as the brush & forest & the field has grown up behind us .
I have been clearing brush in our woods today ...More to do tomorrow ..so it has no place to hide or sneak up on the flock ..
Today I noticed the fox may have attacked a third hen ..she has some feathers missing too .
The radio has been a good deterrent so far. It stays on all day. The girls could report back to you on any recent score or game activity.

What are the laws on trapping/shooting a fox this time of year? Is it allowed to protect your flock?

On a trip back in Orson snuck up behind me. I panicked for a moment but then he just sat down next to me and watched them. Originally I was worried he'd attack the chicks because he has a habit of chasing cats. However he was very well behaved. Stayed next to me, listened to commands. The chickens weren't happy about him but they werent terrified either.

Afternoon everyone, been a exciting weekend and Monday here at the farmstead.. Butchered a few mean ol roos and one innocent bystander and then our batch of Cucko Marans and Polish arrived this morning.. How is everyone else doing this fine Monday day

I have a morbid curiousity, how did you butcher the bystander on accident?

This is what you call "very strict" ? No matter crush or other wise I disagree. They are far to young for a relationship of any kind. I don't care what another mother or even father thinks. If they disagree that's to bad. There is more to a relationship than the physical. There is the emotional part too.

3 Ducklings hatched. Not sure about the last egg....the momma has a FIT when I pick her up and I had just fallen on the boardwalk outside my coop, so my knee was hurting too much to stand there and fight with her to get another look at the egg.

This rain can stop anytime now. If the ducklings were old enough to go out of the coop they could just paddle around on the entire lawn. It's a swamp out there.

No pics, no camera. (Cell phone would work, but it's so old it doesn't have cord to connect to computer to upload them)
