NY chicken lover!!!!

I really meant home, your niche in the world. I got a few minutes of peace today out picking cherries in my yard and had someone stop to hand out religion pamphlets. I'm not always anti social, but when it's been a long week and you have sore feet/legs you just need a little quiet do your own thing time.
that's I have been doing. Building my wife and I a camper.

pictures are reversed and I have several more, but you get the idea. I get left alone, hang with mama's and chicks all day. Good stuff.

Yes!

Stoney, Pour camper reminds me of a gypsy wagon. please post the finished product as well!!.

I really wanted to build a teardrop, but my wife wasn't sure and we both liked the Vardo/gypsy wagon style. So that is what I'm building

Has anyone ever had those days where you wish you could shut yourself in your house and not interact with the world?

All the time. Some days I get to work and would prefer to hide under my desk and eat chocolate all day. I like my job, but the computer software issues are driving me insane.
What is up with these chickens this week? I think they are in cahoots with the computer software to see how far they can push me. The one red hen is half naked, been plucked by who-knows-what today. All the rest are fine, but she looks like she been dragged through a hurricane. Half naked and looks like a wrung out dish rag. I found some feathers on the back lawn, but the chickens normally don't go down there. Don't really see bite or scratch marks. Was thinking maybe a dog thought she was a fun squeaky toy and to pull her feathers out. We did see several very large birds in some trees just down the road when we got home. At first thought turkey vulture, but didn't look to have the ugly head. There was at least 8 of them. Maybe those things got after this one hen, who knows. She seems shook up, kinda spacey, but otherwise ok.
Now should I rub some sunscreen on her naked butt or season salt? :D

I got some cleaning done on the coop after work today but this scratch on my arm is still burning. I can't afford for it to be infected, I have no health insurance.

Keep it clean with antibacterial soap and water. Some neosporin will help too. Don't use peroxide, it irritates the wound and dries it out too much. Probably why it burns, killing the good cells off too.

Yeah, I used it at first to get the dirt out. Chickens and their filthy feet. I kept it wrapped up while I was at work today and will do the same tomorrow.

Hello fellow NYers...anyone from Long Island? Suffolk County? Im in southampton...have chickens tons of ducks turkeys and geese...ive also dabbled with quail and pheasants...

Dh was told by a doctor that Neosporin should be used ONCE for a wound. After that, just keep it clean. Not sure if that makes sense to me, but that's what he was told! Hope it heals quickly!
Welcome to the newbies!

It was a good move to get the incubator started up today. Right after she laid the second egg, it was like something snapped and she wanted nothing to do with the eggs. She's back in the coop and Oscar has been chasing her around relentlessly. Poor thing. I'll have to call tomorrow and get him GONE.
My incubator is at 95' and 53% humidity. I don't dare turn the temp up anymore, as it's midnight and I don't want to accidentally fry them. I candled them again and out of 6 eggs, I'm pretty sure 2, possibly 3, are viable. Hopefully I'll get at least the 2.
Show tomorrow... wish me luck!

This is just my thinking behind this. But neosporin will keep the scab kinda moist makeing a good breeding ground for the bacteria that the neosporin is trying to fight. But once the scab forms and hardens it should act as a shingle on you roof keeping stuff out and letting the under side dry/heal as needed. Sorta like peroxide it is a drying agent so it drys out the bad stuff on top letting under layers rebuild. Personaly though I use 91% rubbing alcohol for everything deep cuts or scrapes i've done this since like 6th grad though. From pimples to stitches it got rubbing alcohol.
