I got some cleaning done on the coop after work today but this scratch on my arm is still burning. I can't afford for it to be infected, I have no health insurance.

The peroxide may have irriitated it . Have you put anything else on it ? Soap & water is best.. then bactrin
Is it being kept wet ? allow it to dry & scab ..

Question...what does everyone do with the unwanted roosters they hatch?
I have 7 right now that I need to find something to do with...my idea situation would be finding somebody to take them but I know that wont happen...I would cull them myself but I hate to see them go to waste and I don't know if I have the stomach for it...I just feel terrible...

I hatched out a bunch of roos, and I caponized them. My first time doing it so I'll see how it goes. But, if it's successful and they're capons, they shouldn't crow, fight, chase after hens. But, they will grow large enough to eat - just not quickly. Last year I tried to sell them and it didn't work. I only found homes for two this year, as most people want to get rid of their extras, also.
Just thought I'd pass that on.

Welcome! My college roommate/best friend is in Southampton! We are mostly CNYers here, but there is a "Southern NY, Dutchess County and below" thread. That will have your local peeps. You are always welcome here too!

Welcome to all the newbies wherever you are from. All chicken enthusiasts are always welcome.

Stony--cant wait to see the finished camper. I like the design. I like teardrops too but this one looks like you can stand up in it. How tall will it be?

Long day at work yesterday and my ankle is telling me so. Came home to find one of the chicks had somehow fallen into the outside water bowl Poor thing was screaming and momma didnt know what to do. I heard the distress calls as soon as I opened the car door so I dropped everything and ran over to see what was happening. I picked it up out of the water and dried it off with my shirt and held it for a bit to warm it up. It seemed fine so I stuck it in the coop and shoved everyone else in there as well. Eowyn already had it tucked under her when I opened the door to look in. I will be removing that dish so there are no more mishaps. Everyone can go inside and use the chick waterer for a drink.

Off to the pharm today. Hoping for a quiet day so I can sit down and rest this ankle.

AQHA---I eat my extra/unwanted roos. I figure since I spent all that time hatching and raising them, I might as well honor all that work by eating them. Once you have processed your first couple, it is easy to do. Think of it as honoring the animal who gives his life that you may be able to eat and sustain your life.

thanks and no it isn't a standy. Inside the height will be around 5 feet tall. Enough to sit comfortably and it is just over 6 feet wide so the bed goes crossways.

My next camper build will be a teardrop. I like them
