NY chicken lover!!!!

Gramma - I do have some but no chicks nor anything I'm willing to give up. I had thought of it but these darned BR's are not laying well again and I need the eggs. I will pull the CR and all eggs in a couple of weeks will be sired by the black roos. The CR roos is dom. and keeps knocking the orp roos off the girls.

As for the religious thing, not without the parents permission. I used to go to the Catholic church as a kid for religious education in Elem school, but had to get my mothers permission to go. That was a long time ago. I think we got, a half hour or so to go during the school day. We'd walk over to the church from school. Mrs. Doubles never forget her. I don't think she liked me.

Nutty - I was in HD yesterday and there was a lot of 1/2" plywood and 2 x 6's and stuff I normally buy but didn't. The ply wood is usually cut into 2' X 4' pieces. My shocks are bad on the van and I have some I haven't used yet so no sense being greedy. It's the HD on Bridge St. in E. Syracuse.

Metella and Daisy Welcome, sorry I missed your entrances.

I have to keep the cut covered at work. I'm a janitor and I don't want any of the filth or the chemicals I work with getting into contact with any fresh wound. While still pink the cut overall looks better today.

The little black chick I got from rancher is most assuredly a little Rooster. At about a month old and already has waddles and red coming in on said waddles and his comb. He also bit me. Nasty little chit that one is becoming. Whomever mentioned Caponizing-- it's looking like a good skill to learn. I'd pay someone a reasonable fee to do it if I had multiple roosters I wished to keep in a bachelor flock.

What is this "caponizing" I keep hearing about?

I agree with keeping a wound covered in certain places. I work in a primary school, and if the kids had an open wound I always covered it, but told them to take the bandage off as soon as they got home. Lots of nasty germs around a primary school ! (Shuddering).
I had 4 cases of ringworm in one classroom this past year (that we KNEW of).

Well, sadly, I think I did my two remaining eggs in. I put them in the incubator since Blondie was done sitting. I got the temp up to 95, and was afraid to turn it up before bed for fear of it going too high. Got up the next morning and the temp had skyrocketed to 105.
I could kick myself, because I have a $115 Ranco temp controller and I never even thought to use it. It would have shut it down over whatever temp you set it for. I used to use it with the gecko eggs. I just never thought to use it for chicken eggs. DUH!
The eggs are not salvageable, right?

The show yesterday was AWESOME. Three Brothers Wineries is a great place and even though it poured half the day, the place was managed well and everyone had a wonderful time. As a vendor, they were superb hosts. My best show yet.

Morning all! Judging from the noise coming from out back, egg laying is in full swing. Girls are very vocal this morning. Must be a competition going on as to who laid the most beautiful egg. Mosquitoes are nasty when I go out. I made sure to check everyones butt yesterday for cleanliness and flies. Found a couple of raw spots on my silkies that I treated. I think the heat and molting contributed to this. I may give them a bath tomorrow so everyone is extra clean. I will have to treat them again today just to make sure they are healing up nice. I do like that vetermycin spray. Works well.

Nutty---it does help to go and see how someone knowledgable processes their chickens. Thats what I did even though I already knew how to process game animals. We just tie a rope around the feet, hang them upside down from a rope strung between two trees and then use a sharp knife to cut the jugular veins just below the skull and beak. They bleed out pretty quick. We do it quietly so the birds arent stressed and they go pretty quick without much thrashing about. Many people use kill cones for this but since we only do one or two at a time, this works for us. Skinning works out pretty good as I usually cut off the legs and breast/wings and put them in freezer bags. Takes up less room. I save the carcass for making soup and stock.

Stony---coming along nicely on the camper. You get bored with it, I will be happy to take it off your hands!

I believe my friend has some.  I can check with her.

Tab I would appreciate that. My youngest wants a couple lavender orpingtons his friend has 2 hens and my son brought me home some eggs and said mom please hatch me some but I find out they have no Roos so not getting anything out of those eggs.

Rancher our lowes has it the same way which I like because it is easier to handle hubby has a truck so full sheets are nota problem to transport but I only get them if I need the full sheet or it is cheaper that way and even if it is cheaper and I don't need it full size lowes cuts it for you for free so I have them make it into the smaller pieces.

Aqha..I bring mine to berkshire view farm to be processed. They are about an hour away and while I have no problem eating them, I really don't like to kill them. If I had to, I would. They taste great!!
One of my friends brought his there as well. I may have to make a trip down in another month or so with my roosters. I just have to convince my dad...he wants to start a "rooster sanctuary"

every time he see's them he tells me how much he likes them.
