Thanks to all for the welcomes and info!

It's nice to "forum" with such a local great group! My husband and I purchased this property about two years ago and last year we got a "wild hair" about getting some chickies and a few pigs....hmmmm need I say any more???? I spent most of my early life in Upstate NY and then the next twenty or so (dating myself....) in the South and came back several years ago. I literally grew up where you had to walk a mile to catch the school bus (anyone else out there remember those days or from Schoharie County???) My first introduction to Chickens were a very very very old couple named the Brown's who had been farmers and then had gotten far to old to keep up with it anymoe but the love of their life were their chickens and they had LOTS! Mr. Brown had every kind imaginable it seemed like me as a kid and I still remember breaking an egg in my snowmobile gloves one day when I went to help him gather some eggs. That was also when I first heard a chicken "growl" so to speak. They loved to shower my little sister with small bantam eggs and I seem to remember some of them even having a greenish color if that can be true - of course that was a long time ago. (HAHA). Anyway, my husband and I have seveal acres and decided to start with some Barred Rocks, and that led to "chicken cravin" for lack of something else to call it.

Right Now I'm trying to hatch: Silver Phoenix, Salmon Favorelles, Black Sumatras, BBR Cubalayas, BB Cubalayas, Blue Andalusians, Ancona Chickens (and ducks), Nankins, Silver Spangled Hamburgs, Silver Seabrights, Silkies, 3 kinds of Cochins, Red Shaddle Yokohamas, Ducks, Geese, ummm and I know I forgot a couple of kinds of chickens (oh yeah Mille Fleur D'Uccles and others) I'm sure not to mention the Barred Rock Babies. ALSO, I picked up some Gold Laced Wyandottes from TSC, and have hatched some Silkies, Blue Jersey Giants, Blue Splash and Copper Marans, Delaware Giants, other Giant Cochins Pumpkin Hulseys and I think I'll stop here because I KNOW everyone is snoring and going blah blah out there...

I have a really nice Orpington mixed group (Jersey Giant and Light Brahma) I got from a great gal and husband out between here and Utica - I know she's a breeder and the mixed bloodlines with these were'nt what they wanted so she let me have them for a great price - they are just adorable and aren't quite ready to lay yet but soon and the Roos are stunning - I have them in a separate pen and will have to watch everyone during playtime since I am looking to do some heritage breed re-establishment work for our area.

Anyway, hatching has been intermittent this year due to some eggs being frozen when USPS delivering them with the cold weather we've had (not Johnstown PO they're really great - possibly albany and stuck on the trucks here???) a slight mishap when I went out of Town for a few days and no one keeping up with the water in the bators and just the general chance you take of shaking and fertility but that is how you learn right???

I actually just picked up today the greatest pair of bantam cochins from down the street one beautiful black pullet and a gorgeous mottled black roo.

So here I am - chickens have become my new "Spring Seed Catalog" only better, you can look AND buy and start them right away!

Hey there MuggsMagee! I just realized who that was - so nice to see your name and enjoyed speaking with you in the past. Sorry I never hooked up with you about the Silkies we spoke of or the Showgirls.

If you ever have any Wyandottes (Silver) or some other really cool breeds let me know.
