NY chicken lover!!!!

Ughh...Hubby was admitted to the hospital this am. He laid his motorcycle down Wednesday night, went to the ER for stiches....this AM it showed signs of infection. IV antibiotics for a few days they say....stupid deer and motorcycle. Grr.

I would so much rather be home watching the chickens run around the yard. Anyone have some cute fluffy butt pics to share?

Rancher how old are birchen roos?

Oh no!! Prayers to your husband for a quick recovery! Agnes says hello.....

I am sorry to hear about your DH and hope he is or will be okay.

I never made it to Target for the camera but will post pics of what I have soon. They are more than two or three months.

Chris, that is so cute two broody girls.

Congrats lynzi that's awesome.

brella & gramma my silkies do the bawk bawk nice and loud so the whole neighborhood knows they are there! My other girls sound like raspy new Yorkers.

By the way I hate my open best boxes not for me I'm going to change. I would love suggestions!

Hubby is home finally but if he don’t get drinking I see him going back in for dehydration he is driving me nuts. The kids did an excellent job taking care of the chicks while I was spending most of my time at the hospital and I went out today to look at the babies and seems in a few days they have doubled in size.

Gramma without Anesthesia I would think that must hurt.

Tab enjoy the quiet soon it will be 3 of them. I got my first babies today from King and ended up with a splash baby, Blue Baby, Black Baby, and either one that is going to splash out or it is white.

Lapeerian Glad you are just soggy sorry about the flooding everywhere else.

Rancher I definitely want the Lavendar Amer Roo and I could take a BM Roo Would love a few BM Females too (Hint, Hint LOL!)

Sunny Hope the hubby gets better real quick. I know how you feel just got the hubby home today from being in the hospital.

Miquwid Love the sunflowers mine are about 4-5 ft tall but were planted in end of May beginning of June. I use bucket nesting boxes with the lids on them I cut a big rectangle in the lid but leave enough of a lip at the bottom so they don’t kick the eggs out.

Yup! Everyone's still laying! I candled the eggs again today I'm getting really excited to see what these Orp eggs turn out like. Wonder what colors I'll get from a splash to a lavender and a buff. Then there's the lone silkie egg. Better not be partridge! LOL If it is any wants it they can have it. It would be neat to get another little black silkie. I actually checked out Nature Berry this afternoon. I've been researching these Magpie Ducks. Anyone have them? I love the blues! Nature Berry had some back in May I think according to their website. But I doubt they'll have any now. What are the chances of them having something that is listed as "sold out" on their website? If they are sold out are they done with that breed for the year? Or if I were to inquire would they try hatching something I wanted?
I was just there today and i didnt see any ducks. I see you got some though congrats. While i was there it sounded like they order some stuff in like the females of breeds. I'm almost 100% sure sandy said they order the females. Which makes sence that would be how they have so many females in there and hardly any roos. It was a crazy day so i really wasnt paying 100% attion. Not sure what they hatch there. I bought 3 barred rocks from them was thinking about 4 but jim said one was a roo cause lighter feather barring. they are little over a month old. The feathers are ruff looking atm not sure if just that stage or got picked on some. I see no blood or injuries so think just that stage. They have ALOT of chicks there. Wife told me if we get like that she will kill me. I told her i dont want that many but i want a barn that big for all the chickens i want to have down the road to breed. So barred rocks in living room,2 chicks in cat carrier in next room, 2 turkeys in the room after that and thank god i dont have any more brooders or i may have more chicks else where. Hmm i may need to make one if my eggs are fertile that are in bator now lol. I'm so dead if even half of these hatch.

Edit well duh if i read the front page of they're website it explains what they hatch and what they buy.

"We breed and hatch our Golden Comets, Black Queens, and African Geese. The Comets and Queens are sex-linked by color and are 100% pullets or cockerels. No guessing. We also sell chicks brought in from established, disease-free breeding farms."

That might work. Would like to see pics. Do you think an Araucana would be big enough for my EE's?

What other breeds do you have? What are you interested in? Is there something we can trade?

Of course I'd have to find a new home for the Lavender Ameruacana I have now. I'm looking to unload roosters.

It looks as though the Blue EE I traded for BR's are Blue bars and both pullets. I thought they were roos or at least one was, but looking at them today, I think they're pullets.

I'm headed to buy a camera today so I'll post pics when I can.
I'll try to post pic tomorrow of the Aracaunas. How big are your EE girls ? I'm looking for colored ( blue / green ) egg layers or a pure Am roo, so I can produce my own EE's

Why are you getting rid of the Lav Am ???

I'll post pics of my blue barred pullets & roo. There is no mistaking the boys from the girls and the blues from the reg black barring. If they are pullets for sure I'll take them back, no problem. I do have 1 reg barred rock roo left from that hatch. I'll post a pic of him too.

I think everybody is in the same boat with the roosters ! I hatched 2-3 roos to every hen. There will be ALOT of boys going to freezer camp this fall, at my house

IF anyone is interested, I have : Several Speckled Sussex roos, 2 Golden Cuckoo Maran roos, 1 Iowa Blue mix roo, 1 Blue barred rock & 1 reg Barred rock roos, 1 Brabanter roo, & 3 Aracauna roos. I also have a boat load of BLRW roos, but I'm growing them out till the fall so I can pick 2 for breeding. I also have a boatload of Black Australorp roos, same thing, i'll be growing them out to pick my breeders

that why I mentioned it ..
Seems cruel to me ...The thread says some birds try to make sound at some point ... they are in pain ...I am sure .
It seems like they could have a beer or shot or something to help with the pain..

Morning everyone

I did 14 quarts of dill pickles yesterday and got a bushel of tomatoes for $7 at a local farm stand. They are ones that grew with scars but they'll make good sauce. My garden is only giving me enough for meals through the week. I'm just happy it is not a total loss. Today I want to spend some time out in the yard enjoying the weather.

Morning all.
Nutty, hope he gets to drinking soon.
Sunny, my FIL did the same thing years ago, MIL took his bike away and sold it :-( Hope he gets better.
Miquwid, we've tried growing sunflowers here for 7 years now and they just never make it. It's a bummer too since they're my wife's fav flower.
I'm not sure about the caponing thing. I know it's supposed to make them taste better and not be as tough but we usually try to whack our roo's when they're still young. Seems like a lot of trouble and if you do it wrong, the bird is dead anyway.
I'm in the same boat with roo's here but mine are all bantams. I think I counted 6 lav cochins yesterday that will need to go at some point. There's a couple mottled, and a couple blue too. I think I only have 1 or 2 frizzle boys. I know for sure I have 3 Barnevelder boys but they get to stay here until at least next year
Cracrzy4chicks I might be interested in a BLRW for a blue barnie project, I don't think you're too far away, maybe a hour.
Rancher I know all too well about the drainage on the creek. If we dig a hole more than a couple feet deep we hit water. I think it's pretty crappy of your neighbors to drain their washer like that. The only thing my neighbor and I drain into the creek is overflow from our artesian wells. Clean fresh water.
Lynzi good luck with the ducks today. I'll be waiting for some pictures.

Chris
