What is this sound and why would my hen be making it?

She's complaining and that's putting it nicely. Hens get upset if someone is in the nest box they want. EVEN if every other box is empty they will complain. This is why most generally you will find all the eggs or most in one box.

I have a brooding hen and FIVE empty boxes. Those %^&* will get in with the broody hen and ignore the empty boxes.

This is why I either mark her brooding eggs or give them eggs of a non color to the coop. EX. Marans get colored or light brown eggs. EE's get Dark Marans eggs as do Dels and BR's. Dels and BR's get either Colored or Marasn eggs. This way I just pull the opposite colored eggs knowing they've been laid that day.

I'll have to have a look. They would work. Colored eggs is all I'm after so any pure roo that will give me those will do.

Is that the NY duchess county thread. What number post is it.
Rancher I have 3 Auracana roos I hatched out thjis spring. 3 different colors, hatched from eggs from RaynDeb, here on BYC. Lavendar, black and not sure what the other color is called. Can post pics tomorrow If you're interested maybe we can work something out

could be a distress call ..you could pull those boxes out & see if there is a frog , snake or mouse back there .
Though no one else is reacting to it
It may be her egg song ..she might have a different one than most have .
Mine put a ba bawk in it too .. Some what like this

That might work. Would like to see pics. Do you think an Araucana would be big enough for my EE's?

What other breeds do you have? What are you interested in? Is there something we can trade?

Of course I'd have to find a new home for the Lavender Ameruacana I have now. I'm looking to unload roosters.

It looks as though the Blue EE I traded for BR's are Blue bars and both pullets. I thought they were roos or at least one was, but looking at them today, I think they're pullets.

I'm headed to buy a camera today so I'll post pics when I can.

Ughh...Hubby was admitted to the hospital this am. He laid his motorcycle down Wednesday night, went to the ER for stiches....this AM it showed signs of infection. IV antibiotics for a few days they say....stupid deer and motorcycle. Grr.

I would so much rather be home watching the chickens run around the yard. Anyone have some cute fluffy butt pics to share?

Rancher how old are birchen roos?

I have mentioned my past Dominique hen who would go to bed early and scream for everyone else to come in. What a pain she was. I do miss her though. She was a good broody mom.

I wonder if anyone has a coop of just broody moms. They make me crazy.

Sending prayers for a speedy recovery for your hubby. My hubby's scanner just went off for the same thing. Motorcycle, deer and guardrails. Not a good combination.
