NY chicken lover!!!!

apple smoked venison steaks. Marinated 24 hours in 50/50 wild grape jelly/bbq sauce. Potatoes were halved and grilled over the smoke. Corn was cooked over coals wrapped in foil, rubbed with olive oil, butter and sea salt. THIS is a fantastic hobby!

apple wood is from my wild apple tree's. And of course me and my .308 killed the deer. And I butchered it as well.

Goose, chicken, rooster, rooster, rooster...
Rancher- I see on the Southern NY thread that someone has two rumpless true Arauncana Roos for sale, only 8 weeks or so. Not sure if that was something to replace your Lavender Americauna.

I'll have to have a look. They would work. Colored eggs is all I'm after so any pure roo that will give me those will do.

Is that the NY duchess county thread. What number post is it.

Can't sleep, 3am. Little girl was up and put her back to bed. From the looks on Facebook, we are hammered with flash flooding again. Someone reported 5" of rain by 11:15pm. Pics of Cortland Walmart, Lowes and Price Chopper all have water in them. Water in the streets over the curbs. Hope everyone out there is ok!

With all this flooding I'm wondering if I should get flood insurance. I don't know that there has been flooding but it seems to show up in places not flooded in the past. It would mean an increase in our mortgage payment and that does not thrill me.

Since I usually have more than 1 new to laying I leave the first 2 - 3 eggs in the box . I mark them with a marker so I know which ones to leave. (And they are usually quite small) After a couple days I'm usually good. I'm thinking of buying a few of those boxes from TS and I can hang them where I might not put a box normally. Right now I have too many chickens

I'm not sleeping nights with so many. I can't decide who is to go, but many do. I've got at least four BM roos to go and it looks like one of the new BM chicks is a roo. There combs pop out at about two or three weeks.

I just wonder if I can get rid of them both and not bother the hen.

Also it seems the BR hen is broody again and she is a mean momma. She puffs herself up and attacks me. This after I tossed her butt out of the nest box.

Don't wait. If you are getting flooding get the insurance. My parents got caught with their pants down with hurricane Sandy and no insurance coverage.

Remember all of that talk about Caponing roosters? Anyone who has experience? I will even bring my roo to you! I don't want to kull him just yet but I might have to if I can't find someone to teach me caponing.

Lynzi, yes he's sold out, but I would ask anyhow, best to call. Jim's wife Sandy usually does the computer stuff but mostly Facebook. I will be there on Wednesday if you wud like I could ask, but ducks go super fast around there.

Stony that is super awesome.

Rancher it might be worth it for the insurance.

Off of work I'm tired time to go home.

Yes, it is the Southern NY Dutchess County and below. Not sure of the post #, but it was within the past couple days. That thread is not nearly as active as this one. I do know it was Queenchick that has them. She used to be from Ithaca.
Found it: post # 12166, queenchick16

Thank You for the well wishes for the hubby. He is still in the hospital and if he don’t start drinking he will be in there another day am hoping he drinks and drinks tonight so he can come home tomorrow. I am exhausted this sitting in the hospital all day is tiring.

Rancher am trying to think what I got to trade non chicken wise I got a gallon of bar oil for a chain saw, a few bales of hay, Some canning jars not sure right now how many but I would say at least dozen will look tomorrow, does the wife crochet I make clay handles for crochet hooks can do up a set of them , hmmmm trying to think You can pick from the above or do you know of anything you are looking for might give me a better idea of what to look for around here.

Tab slow down and Yes have Travis help out of let some of the cleaning go.

Lynzi Sorry about the duck but it does look just like the mixed KC and Runners I got from Chris so I think the woman you got him from must have a runner somewhere.

Miquwid isn’t great not buying eggs I love not buying eggs anymore although I don’t eat them that often it is mainly kids and the hubby I love the chickens but hilariously I really am not a big egg fan
Jlaw can you move the crate she has been laying in into the coop? It isn’t the number of nesting boxes you have cause I had originally in the one coop 4 nesting boxes and had 7 layers and they used only one box added a few more layers and still only used one box and so cut boxes down to 2 and they still only use one box

Stony Yummy!

Ok enough for me time to go to bed want to be back up to the hospital before the doctor.
