NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi Everyone, I live in Central NY just south east of Syracuse near Cazenovia. I have 11 chickens with plans to add in the spring more chickens, possibly bantams and ducks, with possibly goats and horses to follow in the following years. I'm a new chicken owner but I'm now an addict. I wish that I had enough time to read all the posts, but my computer isn't fast enough. I hope that all are welcome?

Of course all are welcome! (You just can't leave, that's all) ;-) Welcome!!!!

Welcome to hotel California :)

Chris

Just had someone actually show up, like they said they would, and took 11 hens. WOOHOOO!!! Now I have room for more. LOL No actually, now the ones I have have room to move.

Has anyone ever ordered from the Poultry Hatchery in Fayette, NY? It's about an hour from me and I figure if they won't ship just two female ducks I can always just drive out there. Unless anyone knows of anyone with two females available? I was looking for runners since my husband really likes the black runners. I gave up on trying to find more Magpies, no one has any. Eventually one of these magpie drakes will have to go, I just don't know which one. I love them both. They're so pretty, even the black and white. Thought I liked the blues better but I love them both equally, not sure what I'm going to end up doing.

We purchased some of our first hens from these people. Would NOT recommend them. A lot of talk putting other people down. Just really rubbed me the wrong way. Chickens were scraggly.

Didn't want to be the first.to say, but........................... a friend had a terrible time with these people. They are arrogant and talked down to her like she was an idiot. Also sold her EE's as Ameracaunas. Bad news !!

You didnt say where the bites are on you ? Earlier this year the knats were driving me crazy ...everytime they bit me they left a welt ...that swelled .
They arent so bad here now .

You guys may be right about gnats. The bites are on my lower legs and ankles. That's what made me think fleas at first because our dog sleeps under the covers right at my lower legs.
The bites themselves are small. They start out red with a pale middle. Then the whole thing turns red but stays small. The redness shrinks over a half a day or so. The bites will itch intensely off and on for a good week.
Do gnats live in the wood shavings in the coop?

I just bought 5 chicks and 2 poults from them earlier this spring. They didn't talk anyone down to me but the prices were much higher than listed on line. Plus there were hidden costs. $7.00 for a small order and another that is escaping me. I called ahead to see if they had Buff Orpingtons and they did but when i got there they only had 1. i never placed an order, just stopped. They all looked very healthy and are nearing laying eggs. 1 turned out to be a cockerel but I'm not driving over an hour to get a replacement. Not sure if I'd recommend because of the cost.

Welcome it's great to have you here!

Lynzi I hope that you can find your ducks.

Stony thanks for the info

Cass there are a few programs but what was one or two cats is now at least 10. I offered many times we have a free rabies clinic and a free spay and neuter. So now I'm going to move the chicken back and let the dogs further back. I love cats I have three but I'm responsible. All 3 dogs and all 3 cats are fixed and have shots. This is the same family that let loose a dog because it had worms, unless it has heart worm deworming meds are expensive even from a vet. So I had to catch this before someone hit it with their car and get it to a shelter.

Here is my apple tree a month ago, it is ridiculously out of control now.
