NY chicken lover!!!!

I would be on the alert to make sure the "town" isn't influenced to change your zoning. Probably when those people built houses in your area, one by one, they asked to have their property zoned residential, until yours is smack dab in the middle, but still agriculture.  Just keep on top of it in case.

Hopefully it won't be a problem for much longer. My MIL has a friend who is a realtor and may have a lead on some empty acreage for us!!

Just joined from Suffolk County Long Island. Hoping to get some ideas for local places for feed/supplies. Coop is being built, but we will wait till spring to fill it up!

I went to town hall to renew my dogs registration and decide to pop into planning and development since I was already there. Found out they knew who I was the moment I mentioned chickens (I guess am the first chicken complaint they have had in the town in recent memory) and that there are about 10 complaints against me, the earliest being from 4:30am but they did not say how far back the complaints go.. I spoke with a code enforcement officer himself and another gentleman whos title i didnt get. We talked about the property being zoned, it is still RA. They found it odd since I am smack in the middle of a gigantic cluster of R-3. They acknowledge that I am legally allowed to have Duane! I told them that I am looking to rehome him if I find that keeping him locked in the coop until late morning does not solve the conflict with the neighbors. I tried to be as civil and nice as possible and hopefully this continues to be as positive as this morning felt.

Well now you have to watch that they don't try to re-zone your property. I believe my neighbors two doors down have a coop but I can't be sure if they have chickens or not.

My BR roo is eating and his comb is looking slightly better. I gave everyone some scratch with cod liver oil on it. I've only got a little left and I don't know where I'd find it. The nutrition store doesn't carry it anymore. I've some yogurt to mix with feed tomorrow for the BR coop.

they are getting big.... Any one by me have silkies?

I have two splash Silkie cockerels but I'm not near you, I'm in the Syracuse area. I do have a blue chick that I'm unsure of the sex on but it only has 4 toes. Not sure if you'd be interested in the blue and a splash or not, or the drive...however I would be willing to meet half way.

Well there is some property next door that is delinquent on their taxes. The house next door is up for auction and there is a third property too.

Go to ongove.net and you can check the tax rolls.. Perhaps find someone desperate to sell. There is a place with nine acres down the road.

Rancher,

I'm glad your roo seems a little better today. Hope the positive trend continues.

Wouldn't a drug store or possibly even WalMart carry cod liver oil in the supplement section? Not sure. Haven't had that in the medicine cabinet since I was a kid, and I can't say I miss it!

Good luck.

Breella,

Good news that things seem to be tipping in your favor. Sounds like you are handling things the right way.

Pharmchick,

I must have missed the original news that Mean Marge had died. I'm sorry to hear that. I had a fondness for Mean Marge stories.
