NY chicken lover!!!!

Seems to me there is an agenda here, seeing  that HE has looked to find a new home for your rooster.   The threat of court and fines, in spite of the fact you have documentation that you are legal also makes me thing HE's the one behind this.  Or at least is priviy to who is and is being specifically sent.

What did he say when you said you'd been to the town and are legal?

I will say, strangely enough, even though I have more than one rooster, they don't ALL crow in the morning. Certain breeds are more prone to crowing than others. Not that they DON'T crow just not as prolific as other breeds.

Bantams are the worst which is why I got rid of the Silky.

I have learned who is who when they do crow. Contrary to popular belief they also do not crow all day long. I am here most of the time and believe me I know.

I put the new Auracana roo out with the flock today and he is crowing less than when he was by himself. If at all. I just came in from mowing and not a sound. In fact you wouldn't even know there are chickens here.

Breella-- I don't think Nutty has been on for a little while. Now that school is back in session she's busier. I'll ask my DH about fostering Duane here until you can take him back. I know we don't need another roo but we have space. I've met the brouillettes also. They live 15-20 min from me. Where did you get Duane (curious)?

Ginny-- I do carry my phone and now that the weather is going to be cooler it won't be as bad waiting for the bus.

Glass-- Chair is a good idea.

Duane came from Tractor Supply. He was in the assorted Bantam bin. I go there semi regular and the girls there think that he was switched from the featured breed bin or got shuffled in at the hatchery. He has grown up beautifully since I got him in March. He is large, friendly, mindful of the girls and will approach when I pick them up an they fuss but since the first time he kicked me and unturned around and chased him around the pen he respects my space. He looks amazing compared to the Dark Brahmas I saw week 1 of the fair and he looks good against photos of other Dark Brahma Roosters I find online.

Third time I lost the message I was typing. Long story short:

Brouillette Poultry Company is the Karen woman that the officer wants me to call to see if they would take Duane. I highly doubt that they would.

I'm contemplating just giving Duane up for adoption. I have not hear back from Nutty yet. My mother in law might have a lead on someone who could take him. Right now it may just be easier than fighting them, They aren't angry about all of my chickens, just Duane. I think that it might be better for me to find a home for him than to push the town to decide to ban backyard chickens all together (even though I'm zoned Restricted Agriculture!)

(maybe I'm just prideful but he has grown into a very handsome rooster IMO)

What breed is he? I know the Brouilettes. They have a large chicken enterprise/business.

I feel like it's been raining for weeks with how wet the ground is! It finally stopped for a minute so I went out there to move my silkie coop down behind the house and partially under the overhang of the roof. Hoping that helps with keeping it somewhat dry. Although I had to remove all the shavings out of the run because they were soaked! That coop is so nasty, at least they weren't on the ground though in all the mud thanks to my new platform I built! (Sarcasm) This thing was supposed to help keep them dry. :-/ <-------- Thats my aggravated face since I cant get the smilies to open. My arms are bruised from the roof of the coop leaning up against them as I move the thing around. What a day. I'm almost tempted to pick up three of those shipping crates from the hardware store and build a new silkie coop with them. Guess I'll have to see how much this coop holds up this winter. Better reinforce it with some better screws before then though.

On a good note I went and grabbed some rocks from Glasshen to add to my pond. I think this landscaping fabric will do the trick as far as keeping the mud from sliding down and thinning out the front wall of the pond. The huge rocks covering it keeping it place will help a lot! Thanks again Glass!!! I'll let you know if I need anymore.

Off to run some errands while the little one is in dance class. Hope everyone enjoys their evening!!!

Lynzi - your thought on packing crates is not so crazy! In 'Grit' magazines' last issue, some dude had built a garden shed out of wood pallets! It actually looked very presentable and provided valuable storage space. Sue

Lynzi I dont know if your silkie coop is one of those pre fab doll house coops but if it is be carful if your going to put roof shincgles or something else on it. I used one last year before my hoop coop and put some roofing material over the roof it had to (I thought) help it last longer. No one has been in the coop since May and when my Mom opened the top a couple days ago (I am using it for storage) the hinge holding one side on had rotted out as well as where one of the arms are that hold that section up.

Its the small coop on the right. You can see where I had already attached the prefab red roofing to the bottom run part. Its the roof on the back half that has started to rot. I attached the roofing material with screws. I don't know if that's what caused the problem or not.

Pretty sad that with the amount of $$ I spent on that tiny coop my hoop coop cost far less, its water tight & 10 times larger

Yea it is actually. Both my online coops are holding up pretty well, actually the one that doesn't have a "real" roof substance on top of it and is just wood panels, is doing better than the silkie coop. The roof is what makes this silkie coop sooooo heavy. What I want to do is remove the roof completely, and replace it with a metal/tin roofing material. If I can get my hands on some I'd start working on it this weekend. I've seen the large sheets of it at Homes Depot but will they cut it there for me?!? I would have no way of cutting something like that.
