NY chicken lover!!!!

Lynzi try upping their protein with eggs & meat. One of my girls is molting hard and I have been giving her eggs with garlic and herbs and lots of animal protein. Chicken wings, mackerel, liver, ground beef........it seems to of helped and the other girls who are moulting are not molting as bad.

All my hens are fed grower with oyster shell always avail on the side to them. I have 2 pullets not laying yet so it's easier to feed their fermented food that way. Within the month they will all be on grains only. I'm sick of buying commercial feed when I can make my own cheaper, they eat what they need of the oyster shell themselves and I have nice hard shelled eggs this way.

I tried the oyster shell over the summer, mixed it in with their layer mash before going back down to grower and they never ate it. I would they would eat all the feed and all the oyster shell bits would be left at the bottom of the bowl. Lol
But I will definitely keep in mind the animal protein! Thanks!

I just got a bag of it this weekend, too early to report results. Mixing with the Hearty Hen. The Anconas are molting, tailless and have stopped laying completely. They stand around looking pitiful, so figured it couldn't hurt to try. And my GLW roo has been missing his flight feathers on his wings. CountryMax has an advertisement board with $2 off coupons, good through the end I'd October. I grabbed a couple extras.
I saw the feather fixer at CM a few weeks ago. Thinking of getting it and putting Frenchine back in QT and feeding it to her. She's practically bald. Poor girl.

My girls don't eat the oyster shell very much either. I had plenty of it out and they wouldn't touch it, but if I put crushed eggshells in there they went crazy for it.

Silly GC you grow potatoes in your ears not tomatoes.
It's hit or miss on mine some like them some don't. We do cut oranges in quarters and they eat the inside of them. They're fav is grapes. We have to trick the hens to get away from the rooster then toss him one fast or he never gets them. Those ladies take it right out of his mouth sometimes.

Feel sorry for that chicken with the missing eye. I wonder if they make glass eyes for chickens. Will others chickens peck at the eye after it is healed? Just wondering if a vet should sew it shut. Just seems like it would get pecked and then start bleeding then they would keep pecking. Hope it gets better soon though.

Lol, I keep a well stocked chicken first aid kit too. I have the vet wrap and the gauze. I did flush her wound gently when I found her. No Nustock, I generally use neosporin so she got that on her wound. I think I'll try wrapping it tomorrow and see if she'll be okay with it. I'll also try the herbs. I'll scramble her up some eggs tomorrow and give them to her. I've never done herbs for my birds before, about how much should I add to the egg and how often should I give them to her?

I've been questioning for a while now if she was actually a pullet or if she might be a cockerel. I told her that if she ends up being a he, I'll have to name him Captain Jack the pirate chicken.
I don't really measure the herbs when they put them in ......maybe a tablespoon or 2. Depends how many eggs you cook up. Enough you can see them but not more herbs than egg. I would give them to her for a few days.

I like the name, Good luck

Its one of my hens favorite treats. Especially Edie.....when I am in the garden and start tossing them into their area Edie sees them in the air and starts running towards where they are going to fall. Its also amusing to watch them run around with a tomato as the others chase her
