Gramma thanks your right that makes sense! I guess i just worry cuz she is smaller but it might work.

Thanks country boy.

Silkies are something. I have one who is in your face small but tough as nails challenges everyone except other silkies. The other is a delicate flower ugh. Im on the fence about the breed. My tough silkie use to challenge me but likes my son well he picked her out. If all silkies were like her i would have a bunch of 3lbs in your face fiery!

Had to google...looks like those commercials ran until 1984, and though I was born in 82, I do not remember the commercials, however I do remember the baby face on the packaging of that brand. ;-) But thanks! Now that I've bathed her its killing me that she's back outside! LOL

There must be a hawk lurking around here somewhere. Just went out to the chicken yard and was a little worried to see no chickens in it. Looked around as I approached it and all I could see was Stella barely peeping her head out of the coop. Got really nervous thinking one of them got attacked since no one was out in the yard. All 4 were in there. Just hanging out. They didn't come out until they noticed me hanging around out there by the silkie coop. Gonna have to start keeping an eye out...

in 82 I was a sophmore in high school. I remember the commercials well

In '82 I had been married 7 years and those Charmin commercials with Mr. Whipple went on forever. Ugh! That reminds me that I harass my husband that while he was in Vietnam I had just gotten out of elementary school. (He doesn't find this funny at all!) ha!

Just my 2 cents here and it seems all are doing it already. Do not use chicken wire alone under ground to keep out preds. This aint from chicken experience this is from NC learning.

I lived in nc after getting out of marines for a bit and our neighbor taught our Dachshund how to dig under the fence. I wish that kid never lived there. Any ways my boss at the shop said to dig down and L the wire into the yard then cover it. When the dog goes to dig his nails and paws will get in the wire and he will stop. Yeah that didn't work at all my dog dug under to the wire. He then chewed through the wire and went under the fence. He is a digging machine though. To this day at 8 years old he digs our yard all up he's always missing nails and this is just to get to moles that he never catches. Just think what a pred could do with smaller mouths sharper teeth and more reason to get in than my dog had to get out.

I expect there are exceptions to every rule, so I just take it all with a grain of salt. We can only do our best.

I'm going to have to say that Silkies are more of pet than a chicken. If Thor had acted like a chicken, he'd have been with the rest of them instead of following me around and under the car and I WOULDN'T HAVE RUN OVER HIM!!!!! Survivors guilt , I'm still suffering.

i'm sorry for your loss.
